With American Idol being rebooted on ABC. Yes or no? It's too soon for a revival so it's a no from me.

Why'd they cancel it then if they're just gonna reboot it? Why not just retool it?

The 1st episode was not very good, but the 2nd episode was so much better, really enjoyed it.
I'll vote yay for now, but there's only been the 2 episodes so far, so it's still too early to tell.

I think the last time I watched one was the fourth season. I didn't watch it regularly after the second season.

It's about the same so far-minus old Simon being mean. But it is just the auditions so far. My vote could change when they get to the next step.

Why'd they cancel it then if they're just gonna reboot it? Why not just retool it? They had retooled it a couple of times. But the cost of it(the judges) was higher than they would pay anymore. And it was on FOX. Now it's on ABC. The bad move was to pit one of the episodes in the week against the Voice. Everything old is new again....

But they still haven't retooled any of my shows that got canned.

Never was a fan of this show to begin with. Not sure why it's being rebooted so soon.

I think this is one of those shows you either like or you don't in general. I like it as it's good disposable entertainment. I have been watching it (as in pretty much every episode) since sometime earlier into Season 5 (i.e. 2006) which was the Chris Daughtry year. although I did catch a little bit of Season 2 with the whole Clay/Ruben thing. as far as the judges... prior to seeing it, I thought Katy Perry would be decent but she's a bit obnoxious which at her age (early 30's) she's a bit too old to still be acting that way. so she turned out worse than I thought in that regard. the other two are growing on me though. but it does seem odd they only missed one year before a reboot. like it last aired on Fox in 2016 and then we missed 2017 and now it's back in 2018 on ABC. RiP, IMDb I would not say MUCH better as I think Idol at it's peak seasons beats The Voice. but I think where The Voice has the edge is the judges panel mostly as they tend to click together especially the whole Adam vs Blake thing etc. but my main complaint about The Voice judges is that they are too nice and sugar coat a lot of their comments and overpraise people etc. you hardly see anything negative said about the contestants and in that regard Idol is better. hell, even in the early part with the auditions etc where they turn the chairs... they even sugar coat that a lot claiming they are amazing etc etc when they did not even turn their chair so obviously they don't think they are nothing special when they won't even turn their chair for a random contestant. but judges aside... Idol has more people I remember after the show is over than The Voice. but I will say that for the most part Idol peaked a while ago now. but I do wonder if some of the reason the Idol contestants stick with me a bit more is because Idol typically runs from Jan through May or so which is a good portion of the year where as The Voice cuts through contestants much faster so you don't get to see them week-after-week like one does with Idol in general. but my guess is this current season of Idol will likely be similar to The Voice in that it's not likely to be on air nearly as long now as you can see in the recent episodes they flew through the Hollywood Week in like one episode where normally that's dragged out longer. my overall favorite season of Idol (from Season 5 to date (I pretty much did not see the previous seasons)) would be... Season 7 (which was in 2008). but off the top of my head... I think it's viewership peaked at Season 5, which was the year Chris Daughtry was on. but it still held pretty strong a while after this before it's viewership really started to take a hit. on a side note... if I had to pick three judges from Idol, who have been judges in the past, I would say Simon/Kara DioGuardi/Steven Tyler would be my pick for judges who have been on the show before and assuming we stick to the usual 3 judges on the panel scenario with two males and one female. as far as The Voice judges... I think the current judges panel is best overall with Adam/Alicia/Kelly/Blake. but I still liked some of the other judges in the past as the only one I did not like is Christina Aguilera (although there is maybe one or two others that are generally weaker than the rest). but for the most part the vast majority of the judges on The Voice I liked even though I think that overall the current panel is the overall best. too bad Kelly Clarkson could not replace Katy Perry on the current Idol panel as that would be a definite upgrade. as for the hosts of each show... it's no contest, Ryan Seacrest is clearly better as he's just got more of a presence to him where as Carson Daly does not as he's quite forgettable as a host.

I didn't watch or care the show, yet I did find it eye rolling how the show somehow became instant pop culture headline clickbait as soon as a season began. FOX took the premise & force fed it to everyone like it was required viewing. Then they seemed surprised when ppl quickly tired of their formula. The 'winners' barely many of them became 'idols', FOX merely told us they were idols - 'no really, they are we insist'.
