The Devil's Rejects was very unsettling, and such a departure (in a good way) from the first movie. 31 is very good too.

The Devil's Rejects. But both House and Devils are two of my favorite horror films.

Sadly, of the 4 I've seen I've not liked any. The one I disliked the least however would be DEVIL'S REJECTS........but I still thought it was awful.

It wasn't until I saw the poll choices that I realized how bad Rob Zombie was as a director...

I like the Devil's Rejects, and I think there's are some really good ideas hiding inside the bullshit of Lords of Salem. But that's about it.

It wasn't until I saw the poll choices that I realized how bad Rob Zombie was as a director... I find him drastically hit or miss. I loved Devils Rejects and the first Halloween movie. Loathed the second Halloween with a passion and really don’t like House of 1000 Corpses.

The Lords of Salem.
The ending of The Devil's Rejects is perfect though. And the chicken scene is so hilarious...but TLOS is the better movie overall.

In critical terms I think his best is Rejects but it's a kind of coin toss between that & Corpses as to which is my personal fave.

I ended up voting for his Halloween remake, though I'm not a fan of his work. At least it's not the WORST movie in that franchise.

I have seen Salem twice and I don't quite get it. I only saw it once, and I found the premise of main character receiving the ominous recording and the idea that their coven has existed for all this time and what not to be an engaging story framework. It's also got some nice imagery. But in true Rob Zombie form, it's also got some extremely lame and stupid imagery and some wannabe art house bullshit amongst it's hokey redneck, white trash dialogue (it's set in fucking Salem, Mass... why do all of his characters need to be from trailer parks and talk like idiot middle schoolers?). The sort of conspiracy investigation thing is intriguing, but when you get to the evil guys in cloaks just fucking graphically jerking off on screen, those trippy visions that she sees are more laughable than unsettling. I liked elements of it, and thought about watching it again, but never actually decided to because those things still bothered me.

I agree with you comment about the imagery, but there was some potent stuff there. It was more Lyncian than anything, and dealing with, or confusing reality with the dream state. It also reminded me a bit of Ken Russell too. I interpreted it she was already dead and finding her way out of limbo. At the start when Heidi is seen driving, she appears to be nodding off at the wheel and then the rest of the film appears to play out her nightmare. That doesn't really explain the ending though with the bodies being found in the apartment, as the voice over on the radio announced. Even though it sounds like you sort of feel the same way I do about the movie, you are sort of making me wanna see it again. I mostly remember the imagery and the Lynchian or Ken Russell-esque (does that work?) surrealism and otherworldliness of the film. And while it didn't work for me, and some of that stuff became laughable toward the end (the aforementioned cloaked demons jerking off their bright red dicks, for instance), some of it is actually rather striking and effective and feels like the more successful version of some of the bullshit he was trying to accomplish in Halloween 2. Mostly what I have forgotten about it is the nuts and bolts of the actual story and what literary happens in it. I kind of remember the feel of it more than anything else. I'm curious to see it again and find out if it still pisses me off by ultimately being dumb and squandering some of the quality craftsmanship.

I'm not a big fan but I always thought he would be perfect to do an adaption of I Am Legend. Afterall, his band made a song about it...

The new sequel, 3 From Hell comes out on Halloween 2019.
Dee Wallace, Clint Howard and Danny Trejo are all in the cast.
