Bright lights, big city. Because this film is not dated at all. And micheal j Fox is good in it. Almost great. Anyone know about this film? Why do I bring this up? No one ever mentions this film.

I wanted to love it. I like Fox a lot. I like Sutherland even more. Phoebe Cates was kinda wasted in her small role. But the overall film had pacing issues for me and ultimately was a disappointment. I'd give it a 7/10. I love the novel, though.

Yea ok maybe I over eggagerated how good the film is. but it's still better than 90percent of every film that came out since it's release, can we at least agree on that?

Never saw it...but I loved the Fox movie that had him pretending to be an executive when he was really in the mail room. Cannot think of the name of it at the moment.

The cream-of-the-crop from the 1980's boils down to the following movies (which is all movies from the 1980's good enough to make it into My Favorite Movies list)...
1.The Terminator (1984) - 9/10 (within my Top 26 movies) 2.The Color of Money (1986) - 8/10 (within my Top 56 movies) 3.Once Upon a Time in America (1984) 4.Die Hard (1988) - 7.5-8/10 (within my Top 105 movies) -.Rain Man (1988) -.Robocop (1987) -.Lethal Weapon (1987) -.Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) -.Blood Simple (1984) -.Risky Business (1983) 11.Top Gun (1986) - 7-7.5/10 (not much outside of my Top 105 movies) --.After Hours (1985) 13.Road House (1989) - 7/10 (within my Top 186 movies) --.Licence to Kill (1989) --.The Big Blue (1988) --.The Fly (1986) --.The Breakfast Club (1985) --.Blame It on Rio (1984) --.Scarface (1983) 20.The Natural (1984) - 6.5-7/10 (on the low end of my Top 186 movies basically) --.Christmas Vacation (1989) --.Vacation (1983)
p.s. it's possible I might slightly prefer some of the movies between 4th-10th over others but for now I won't put the effort into tuning those a bit and just call them roughly tied. but my 13th-19th are likely pretty much tied with each other there so I would not really adjust those any.

Haven't seen it but Fox was the big name in young stars in the 1980's.

I used to have the soundtrack on cassette, The Secret of My Success too. I liked Michael J. Fox 80's movie soundtracks back then.

I agree, Secret Of My Success was a fun movie and I should revisit it as well. Haven't seen it in ages. I never did see Bright Lights, Big City. Might seek out that one, too.
