For some reason I feel zero excitement about this movie. Even though it has great reviews everywhere and I quite like Nick Robinson (Kings of Summer, yeah!). If you saw it, pls tell me something good about it, why should I go see it? Help me get excited about it at least a little bit so going to see it doesn't feel like a chore. Thanks

I thought being a closet gay was over and done with. Why is it making a comeback now?

It can be a little overly sentimental and I don't think it's as funny as people claim. But, this is warming and kind of impossible not to be charmed with. Nick Robinson is really impressive. Thought he was just a bad actor in Jurassic World but he seems to have big talent.

That and being a bad actor isn't always the same thing. The movie is basically a John Hughes-ish teen movie, but with a precedent setting gay lead character (the first such time in a major studio movie). Funny when it needed to be, dramatic when it had to be. Even though some may deem Love, Simon unnecessary, there are still who hold hostile views towards gay people, just there are those who think nothing of it.

Because they had a really good chemistry together - not necessarily romantic but there was some connection building, that, if accompanied by what was in the letter, could have been really strong. But he had NO connection (from the viewers point of view) to the black guy, who he shared screen with only for like one or two scenes. i get that it was supposed to be a guessing game for the viewer but in the end i wanted to be happy that the particular couple got together and i found myself wishing it had been Simon with Martin…. so…. oh well. it was an ok movie. not great, not bad. cant see why it has 91 on RT though. nowhere near to the perfectly clicking machines of John Hughes magic.

The joke about him not being racist in the trailer also feels very dated. How many times eill a character say yeah im not racist, just not attracted.

I have seen so many gay themed films, this one just looks like another bland coming of age, ala Lady Bird. It looks Hollywood trite and safe and at a PG13 level, it looks like it is afraid to offend as well. If I can drag a female cousin of mine along to see, I may go, otherwise I don't think I will bother going out of my way. yeah, thats exactly how i felt before going to see it. now that i have seen it i don't feel that much different, BUT it does have its moments and it does have two great actors in it (playing the roles of Simon and Martin) and its light and fairly entertaining so it wasn't a total waste of time. And I do get why it is unique - I think its very rare that a mainstream teen rom-com movie is made with a gay kid in the center. Without any additional drama or dark spins etc. Its just your regular mainstream easy and light teen rom-com, but the main character is gay.

Wow, if that is a realistic depiction of what goes on in British schools these days, Britain is doomed!

To me though, he felt like a bad actor AND an annoying character.

I would actually say compared to an average city public school in the US the UK has it made. but maybe you are talking about another country?

My school had nothing to do with the one from The Inbetweeners but that is probably because a)it was thirty years ago, b)it was a private school, and only in third place because c)it was a different country.
