Damn I did not know this. I loved season one, but have been waiting for Iron Fist for a year. I guess I am doing a lot of binging this weekend.

Looking forward to it. This is based on a book series by a favorite author of mine, Bernard Cornwell.

I checked my dvr last night to make sure it was still scheduled and Comcast does not show any episodes for season 2.

I'm not sure what BBC Two is. I'm guessing that is the actual UK station and not what I get in the US, which is BBC America. Do you know how long it takes for it to get to the US?

Bit of a dropoff in quality in S02E01. Hopefully it picks back up...

I actually really liked it. I binged the entire season in two days back when you started this post so I barely remember it now.

Just started watching it. I'm watching episode 3 right now and I can't believe it took me so long to watch this show. So far it's fantastic with great characters and very good world-builing. I've heard Vikings gets better after season 1, but I still haven't continued because I found season 1 just okay (except 1 episode which was great). I'll probably continue it one day and then also look back and realize how stupid I was about not watching that show for such a long time, but enough about Vikings. The Last Kingdom hooked me with its first episode and I'll probably finish the entire season very soon. I've heard about it a few times, but why is almost nobody talking about this show? It doesn't have to be as big as Game of Thrones, but I honestly almost never hear somebody bringing this show up during a conversation.

I want to thank kevin for reviving this thread. I have been looking for a new series. It's been on my Netflix watchlist forever, but I always pass it by. I see it has an award in Britain for Special, Visual & Graphic Effects. It's a genre I like and the majority here like it. I will be checking it out.

Just finished season 1 and wow, that was incredible. You know that feeling of watching a movie or tv show in constant suspense and basically sweating your way through the watch because you desperately want certain things to happen to the story and the characters because you're so invested in them? It's the same feeling I had when watching a movie like Whiplash and this show gave me that feeling as well and it does so because all of the characters work so well. You (at least I) care a lot for the characters and that's something rare nowadays. Everyone is so well written and the arcs are so good. It reminds me of Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones in that you can't help but cheer with the characters when they win. The heroes are fantastic, the villains are some of the best in recent tv and they are both so good because it's difficult to seperate them. The show works because it shows that (almost) everyone is human and not only good or bad. I can't wait to start watching season 2 now. If you haven't seen this yet, watch it. After Game of Thrones (and maybe 'Outlander' even though that takes place later) this is the best current middle ages/medieval themed tv show out there. That final episode, that's how you end a season.

Just finished season 2. Episode 1 was good, but it didn't grab me as season 1. Episode 2 was better but still not amazing. And then came episode 3... wow that was an emotional gutpunch. Episode 3 is one of the best episodes of tv I've seen this year. And the best thing is that it stays on the same level for the rest of the season. Episode 3 - 8 gave me the same special feeling season 1 gave me, but I think these episodes were even better. I think I even prefer season 2 to season 1. I haven't had time to rewatch episodes 1 & 2 from season 2, but I think that having seen the result in episode 3 - 8 they will improve on a rewatch. This show is so good at creating layered characters and the villains are, once again, so good. If only all tv villains were this good. Actually I don't know if this show really has 'villains'. The show also makes you hate and love characters at the same time. There is no clear line between good and evil. Uhtred and Alfred are up there as the best tv characters right now.
Any doubts people had that season 1 was a fluke should be gone. Season 2 is even better and solidifies The Last Kingdom as the best medieval themed show after Game of Thrones. Stakes are higher, characters are more layered and emotions are more powerful. I want season 3 right now and the fact that I haven't grown tired of the show in the slightest after watching 16 episodes in a short timespan is saying something.

I am really hoping series 3 will be confirmed.
Question for those who have read the books and remember them well (I have read the first four or five books years ago but I guess my memory isn't what it used to be): that whole subplot of Aethelfled being kidnapped and then falling in love with Erik was made up for TV, right? I have zero recollection of any of that, and the whole thing sounds very implausible.
