They're always seen as cute cuddly teddy bears who beat the Stormtroopers, which in turn further emasculates the Stormtroopers. But lets try to mitigate them. They got spears and archery and traps, so they're clearly cunning and vicious killers and not-insignificantly physically strong, seeing as how they captured our heroes and were about to eat them for dinner. They also wear bone trophies. In the battle, they had some advantages. They're fighting in home territory, the Rebels are helping them, had the element of surprise. And weren't they slowly losing and running like headless chickens until Chewbacca commandeered an AT-ST? Is it hard to imagine they could meant to be something more like this? ![](https://i.imgur.com/yzCoAPA.jpg)

I don't think that's possible when the Stormtroopers bump into doors, can't even shoot R2-D2 as he moves at the pace of a snail, repeatedly fall for ambushes/traps, and are described by other characters as "the weak minded." I actually liked the Ewoks, by the way. While they were "cute" at times, they served a purpose to the story. I didn't mind the Gungans either (outside of Jar Jar and maybe Boss Nass) as they served a purpose too. The real unforgivable species to be added to Star Wars are those terrible Porgs that contributed nothing to moving the story forward! ![](https://s26.postimg.org/6aj6gwck9/angry.gif)

Good relations with the Ewoks I have. They just make sense in the story context:
- They were something new in the SW universe and served their purpose as comedic relive amongst the more epic space battle and the dramatic father-son confronation. - Thematically, they are the embodiment of Yoda's Size-matter-not. This was also a riff on Vietnam. - They were creatively done with a lot of designs and ideas - and they inspired some of the best scenes like the adoration of C-3PO as god.
Only thing that still butthurts me is that Palpatine got defeated by those Teddy bears, but in my head canon the Emperor in Jedi was not Palps but Jake Palpatine, Sheeve's dumb baby brother (Snoke was their stylist).

caravan of courage and battle for endor > tfa & tlj And it's not even close. The first two are canon stories, and the second two are cashgrab fan fiction drivel.

The Ewoks themselves are fine. They added a little comic relief and they even served a story purpose.
Its the part where they actually start fighting the storm troopers that gets silly. If you just removed them after the part where the one flies off with the speeder then it would've been more believable. But at a certain point its just not acceptable that teddy bears fought grown men in armor who are armed.
Silliness for the sake of a laugh or two is one thing (The Porgs did that), but teddy bears fighting the Empire is TOO silly, even allowing for suspension of disbelief.

hilarious picture, that would have probably made me afraid of Ewoks as a kid.
