Just now noticing how alot of the IMBD boards seemed to have fled to more specialized sites, like goodreads,,etc.
Is Reddit the only game in town that still comes close to mimicking the IMBD user experience?
I can't think of another,
So I will stick around and hope this board sustains the interest of it's new members, but the chat feature in-between ongoing topics is rather annoying to say the least, makes one feels like a third wheel...which is kinda bullshit.
This board does prove one interesting thing, I had thought that IMBD was a community and because of that IMBD2 was the only logical home for everyone to at least give it a good try. But like all things Internet- everyone just seems connected.

It would be hard for a forum like this one to mimic IMDB precisely as IMDB had pages and then boards and threads for everything. That worked there because you would just type in the subject you wanted and then start post on threads of interest. To do that here would be rather bulky. Then again I am not a tech wiz either.
At the moment on here it kind of feels like everyone is finding their way and that is natural given how new this site is.

That is very true and I have noticed how people are lingering on IMBD until the very last moment, the best thing is for all of us to keep the ship sailing along until IMBD finally sinks and everyone truly looks for an alternative and some realize that maybe us IMD2'rs are right. As a way of putting this, the old IMBD books board was cool because it was small and focused and you could just wander in and out. Now some people think they will set up an IMBD Books Board group on Goodreads? why may I askth? What does IMBD have to do with Goodreads except that Amazon also owns and runs it. Where are the Movie discussions? Like that will last more than a few weeks before everyone is distracted and just wanders off. (looking for movie reviews on IMBD2). But to reiterate...the Chat feature between ongoing conversations is total B.S. and should be placed off to the side and out of the topic. Is this possible? Administrators please tell me? I'm not sure what you mean. If you're referring to nested replies, I have yet to figure out a way to do that here.  |

I have been told that they form some tight-ass little clicks over on Reddit these days, haven't been there in awhile though. If it was that great, everyone would just flee overthere.
Would be nice to know of other people's experiences, good or bad.

Many smaller forums here haven't really taken off at all. Recent mainstream cinema doesn't interest me that much - what I will miss from IMDb are those those small boards for people and movies that most people have never heard about. I don't want to make hasty judgments since a lot of IMDb regulars haven't joined any place yet so let's carry on and hope for the best I guess. I just hope this place won't become too mainstream-oriented. With IMDb's large userbase there's potential to become much more diverse than that. And they even have those awful downvotes and upvotes system. Jesus Christ! There's no point in going against the popular stance on Reddit since people will just downvote any unpopular opinion to oblivion no matter how well written or thought out or it is. However write something write "omg this is so awesome!!!!" about something that's popular there and you'll get dozen upvotes at least. It's just a circle jerk site. Communities with some kind of karma system always end up like that.

The Truth will tell about this site when IMBD finally crashes and burns, I am hoping that the Administer does not radically Alter the IMBD boards format, alot of people dismiss the Politics board but that is a huge in/out driver of the old IMBD site.
But I have noticed the stall in posting, alot of people wander over and grunt a few replies then wander off?
FEB 20th will be an interesting day around here. (Doomsday for IMDB and a predictor of this sites future).
Why do we need 20,000 members to be a functioning board?
It might come down to just some of the most popular boards just surviving and prospering.

I don't understand why people are continuing to post on IMDb's boards. Those boards will be gone in less than 10 days. Why are those people holding out till the very last minute? It's silly. They should just accept that the boards will be eliminated, and just move on already. There's no real reason why those people can't just come post over here on this forum.

One reason is the socially orientated boards don't know where to migrate and they still just go to where everyone hangs out. I am also guilty of checking back on old threads but the habit is slowly sifting to here.

I honestly hope this site doesn't fail. Reddit doesn't have the right design for an IMDB-like forum, The GOT Board feels pretty biased in favor of GOT fans, and Flying Monkey's board seems to have too much of an undisciplined approach. And, of course, none of them have even a sixth of this board's userbase.

But like all things Internet- everyone just seems connected. Check out MovieMb.com. While we don't mimic IMDb in look, we are setting up a system for individual movie boards. In the last few days we've added 1500 movie title message boards, and are working on adding 1000's more daily. Right now we have a board for most movies made after 2011, and are working backwards until we have the most movie boards on the internet. |

Will try to check out the site but I am beginning to like the intimacy of this IMB2 site for boards- I don't really need to mingle with 500,000 people to have a good enjoyable conversation. A little burned out with all of this wandering around.
Though having an option for individual/specialized movie threads and coming back here for General Topics is a rather good Idea!

Reddit is an horrible discussion board, apart from the navagation even the threads are tough to follow and as someone said the cliques are a problem - down voting people they don't like to push you into obscurity
