You are wrong. Social Media has a big effect on most movie makers: Spielberg just confirmed it for ET.
The outcry of middle aged virgins with anger issues made Lucas significantly reduce Jar Jar. Unfortunately, you can only influence ideas, you cannot change the lack of ideas as seen with current Disney SW.
