What do you think of this book? Am I in for a treat? Am I wasting my time?

I read Wicked years ago. It's totally not the Oz from the movie or the original books but I recall it as an interesting read told from the viewpoint of Elphaba before and why she became the wicked witch. The play pretty much nailed it except of course for the music.

She was an evil person who deserved to be melted. No excuse for her to threaten Dorothy's dog.

I enjoyed the play, but it felt a little saccharine how everything wrapped up with a fancy bow.

True, the book was much darker than the play and the ending was anything but happy. There is little in the story that was happy. In fact, it was a set up for the sequels, none of which I wanted to read. The first book was more than complicated enough but I kept on until the end.

Fyiero being The Scarecrow It was too good a reveal to be passed up... so they made it an actuality in the musical.
