I know this isn't necessarily a popular opinion, but I honestly really like multi-camera/studio series. That's not to say I don't like single camera shot series. Ultimately I think they tend to be the best way to go in many situations. However, I still think there is value in multi-camera shows. The sets and use of lighting are really nostalgic of the beginnings of film and television. I like how in many ways it creates a play-like atmosphere. I feel like there are certain stories that lend themselves better to this format of shooting. I know we still have some around today, but I really would like to see more of a revival in this format of storytelling.

There are still quite a few multi-cam sitcoms. There are but I do feel like they kinda go underused and under appreciated. If it wasn’t for CBS I feel like almost none would be left.

It's true that the numbers have gone down in recent years but I think some of the other networks are planning to pick up a few next season.

The problem is that many producers, writers and directors don't see the true value in this format. They think that adding a laugh track is a good way to make viewers think that something unfunny is funny.

They think that adding a laugh track is a good way to make viewers think that something unfunny is funny. Probably true. But I also think the issue is that today's comedy writers don't really know how to write for the format. If you go back years ago shows like Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond were truly funny. The writers knew how to create good stories and humor for the studio format. There are some decent multi-camera series today, but all in all most writers don't really know how to write for them.
