20) Inter Milan – 37 (Icardi 24, Perisic 9, Skriniar 4)
Now we’re not saying that Inter are over-reliant on Mauro Icardi but he has scored 48% of their Serie A goals this season. So yes, we are saying that Inter are over-reliant on Mauro Icardi.
19) Besiktas – 38 (Talisca 15, Tosun 12, Babel 11)
And Cenk Tosun swapped a place in that attacking line-up for the chance to complete four passes in 78 minutes for Everton against Manchester City.
18) Monaco – 39 (Falcao 20, Lopes 11, Jovetic 8)
Unbeaten in Ligue Un since November, a large dose of credit goes to former Man City trainee Rony Lopes, who has scored eight goals in Monaco’s last nine Ligue Un games. Sexy. And a dollop goes to former Man City striker Stevan Jovetic, who has scored six goals in his last five games.
17) Manchester United – 39 (Lukaku 20, Martial 10, Rashford 9)
With four goals in his last six Premier League games, it is all about Lukaku right now. He was our early winner after reaching 100 goals, he leads our Team of the Week and Daniel Storey stroked him further in Winners and Losers. And yet he is not one of our signings of the season.
16) Napoli – 40 (Mertens 19, Insigne 11, Callejon 10)
Only one goal for this trio in Napoli’s last three Serie A games tells a succinct story of how the Serie A title may well have been lost.
15) Nice – 40 (Balotelli 20, Plea 16, Saint-Maximin 4)
After a massive over-reliance on Mario Balotelli earlier in the season, a new hero has emerged. It’s six goals in three games for the previously unheralded Frenchman…
14) Shakhtar Donetsk – 43 (Ferreyra 20, Marlos 14, Bernard 9)
Those with good memories may recall that Facundo Ferreyra spent a year on loan at Newcastle; he never got further than the bench. They are – as you might expect – absolutely p***ing the Ukrainian league.
13) Benfica – 45 (Jonas 33, Salvio 7, Pizzi 5)
Jonas has failed to score in only five of Benfica’s 28 league games this season. He probably deserves the Portuguese league title even if his teammates don’t.
12) Juventus – 46 (Higuain 20, Dybala 19, Khedira 7)
Juventus are unbeaten in all competitions since mid-November. One man in particular is playing rather well…
11) Bayern Munich – 47 (Lewandowski 31, Muller 10, Tolisso 6)
It’s little wonder that Robert Lewandowski wants to move to Real Madrid this summer.
10) Sporting CP – 47 (Dost 26, Fernandes 12, Martins 9)
When Jonas has scored 33 league goals, we are almost embarrassed for Bas Dost that he has only scored 23. Not half as embarrassed as we were for him when he toiled against England last week, mind.
9) Porto – 49 (Aboubaker 20, Marega 20, Soares 9)
Ah, our first team with two 20-goal strikers, though neither have scored in recent weeks as Porto have exited the Champions League and relinquished top spot in the Portuguese table.
8) Lyon – 52 (Fakir 19, Diaz 18, Depay 15)
While Nabil Fekir has been injured, a certain Memphis Depay has stepped up with three goals in his last two games. No wonder AC Milan are said to be interested.
7) Lazio – 52 (Immobile 32, Milinkovic-Savic 11, Luis Alberto 9)
For all the jokes about Ciro Immobile’s lack of movement (if only his name suggested a pun…), he is Serie A’s top scorer despite playing for the team in fifth. Expect him to add more against Salzburg on Thursday.
6) Real Madrid – 53 (Ronaldo 34, Bale 12, Benzema 7)
Ronaldo took the weekend off and allowed Bale and Benzema to give poor Las Palmas a thrashing. Ronaldo has scored 21 goals in his last 11 games in La Liga and the Champions League. Which is nothing short of sodding ridiculous.
5) Manchester City – 56 (Aguero 25, Sterling 20, Jesus 11)
English football’s top scorers by some margin, largely because this triptych is ably supported by Leroy Sane (9), Kevin De Bruyne (8) and David Silva (8). They were 24th on this list last season; it’s almost like Pep Guardiola improves players.
4) Tottenham – 57 (Kane 31, Son 16, Alli 10)
There’s also Christian Eriksen on ten goals, so that tells you everything about this fantastic Tottenham side. If you want as much credit as Mauricio Pochettino, Jose, you know what to do…
3) Barcelona – 62 (Messi 32, Suarez 22, Paulinho 8)
Yes, Paulinho. And no other Barcelona player has scored more than four goals. Which is mental. Note: They topped this list last season thanks to MSN.
2) Liverpool – 71 (Salah 35, Firmino 21, Mane 15)
Jesus, that is some leap from third to second. Should they care that the departed Philippe Coutinho is the only other player to score more than four goals? Not right now they shouldn’t. No wonder Pep Guardiola is scared.
1) PSG – 74 (Cavani 31, Neymar 26, Mbappe 17)
It wasn’t enough to keep them in the Champions League, was it?
20) Inter Milan – 37 (Icardi 24, Perisic 9, Skriniar 4)
Now we’re not saying that Inter are over-reliant on Mauro Icardi but he has scored 48% of their Serie A goals this season. So yes, we are saying that Inter are over-reliant on Mauro Icardi.
