Nightmares and Dreamscapes by Stephen King (Just reading the stories I never got around to before, which amounts to about half the book.)

I finished reading the complete novels of Raymond Chandler in the Library of America volumes. The last time I reported I had just started The Lady In The Lake. Following that came: The Little Sister The Long Goodbye Playback The Lady In The Lake has his best puzzle and surprise ending. The Little Sister was the first Marlowe book I read back in high school. It is probably Chandler's most cynical. The Long Goodbye is the Longest Novel with a large stretch in the middle that seems to lose the mystery all together, but this is his best achievement as a literary work. Playback, a reworking of a screenplay he couldn't sell, is the weakest but, hey, it is still Philip Marlowe. Have you read his unfinished Marlowe novel Poodle Springs which was later completed by Robert B. Parker?
Personally I wasn't too impressed by it. Parker has a decent ear for dialogue, but when it comes to description and prose style in general he is no match for Chandler. I didn't think the plot was particularly good either.

It's a collection of short essays, basically recommendations of books the author considers neglected classics.

I have read it but not recently. However, the impression I still have of it agrees with yours.

In my quest to read every Stephen King story that I can get my hands on (which means some hard to find stuff that was only ever published in some literary magazine and therefore isn't accessible might to unread by me), I'm reading his unfinished serialized e-book experiment, the Plant.

Listening to the audiobook of A Game of Thrones. I never started the series because it doesn't seem like it will ever finish, but what can I say, I miss the show.

Listening to the audiobook of A Game of Thrones. I never started the series because it doesn't seem like it will ever finish, but what can I say, I miss the show. I had just finished book 4 when I heard the announcement that there was going to be a show. Being the poor naive fellow that I am, I thought it would be weird when George R.R. Martin finished the books before the show was able to catch up. Now I've had to resign myself to the truth that Martin will almost certainly die with the series still unfinished. And before anyone suggests that another author can finish it on his behalf, Martin is on record saying that neither he nor his estate will consent to that.

Read that so many times. One of the all time greats. The recent TV adaption was pretty good as well.

Started re-reading Isaac Asimov's "Foundation", inspired by the new TV show based on it. It was so long ago that I read it that I have practically no recollection of it.
