I really enjoy all three films and I feel that it's one of the more underrated trilogies in the horror genre IMO. What I found interesting was how each movie had it's own style and feel, yet they all are connected in terms of the characters and stories/timelines, so to speak. Plus the performances by the two lead actresses, Isabelle and Perkins, are simply great with so much depth and emotion...not to mention the intelligent/witty writing and direction in every installment. Hell, even the werewolf effects are solid considering how lower-budget they were. Are they perfect? No. Anyway, I enjoy ALL three!
Do you guys agree?

The first one won an award for best comedy screenplay which seems strange for a horror film but it's Canadian-made so I don't know.

I’m a fan. I especially like the third one set in 1700s or so.

Yeah, I know it did win an award. Although to me, I don't really consider the original a horror comedy...it's more like a dark horror coming-of-age film with black humor LOL. Also, I believe the sequel and prequel are pretty underrated and are actually solid as well. Thoughts on them?

I agree with you about Ginger Snaps Back, Marv. It really was a clever and interesting way to bring back both sisters but in the 19th century and at a trading fort. Logically, it made sense and actually showing them as their own ancestors with the first werewolf curse was pretty well done IMO. Now, I'll admit it would've been cool to see Ginger turn more into the wolf like the first one...still, the story was effective and the acting/directing/cinematography was beautifully eerie and heartfelt. It didn't seem like the actresses just did it for a paycheck, although I do think Katharine had to be talked into it. Plus, there was some more werewolves even if maybe a couple more scenes with them would've been nice. Overall, it's a solid prequel.

Couldn't get into the first movie. Same here. I wanted to like it, but it was just too much of a teen angst movie for me. Found the characters annoying and the sets dull and bland. Such a very dreary film.

In other words it wears its Canadian pedigree on its sleeve. I havent see any of them, but Isabelle was in Freddy vs Jason and the only character I remember was hers.

One of those which I remember got a lot of good critic and some even hailed it as one of the best horror films of the early 00s, still I did not watch it until a few weeks ago and as much as I wanted to enjoy it, I just could not seem to get "through" to the incredibly annoying and very unlikeable main characters. I guess it is just one of those films "everybody" else loved but me. Did not know that it was made several films, maybe I will look them up or give them a go if I should "stumble" upon some dirt cheap DVD copies in the near future, but the first one I will probably never bother with anymore.

I liked the first one a lot when I saw it years ago. I watched it again somewhat more recently, maybe last year, with my now wife and she didn't care for it at all. I kind of thought she'd go for the dark Mean Girls or Heathers kinda vibe, or the sisterly relationship at the center of it, but she's not into horror and she didn't care for the characters and hated the ending.
I still liked it seeing again, but it did have some issues. I didn't really mind the obnoxiousness of the characters, since they were sort of caricatures of angry teenage girls and everything was heightened. But some of their behavior was a little too annoying and some of the decisions were hard to buy into.
But, I still think the basic idea of relating the discovery of puberty, especially for girls, to body horror and monstrosity, is quite clever and inventive and I think the family relationships and other satirical elements like the high school friendships are mostly well handled. And I like the effects and cinematography. The movie overall evokes autumn in the suburbs really nicely. But I do see how even though it's intentional that the angsty and unpleasant main characters make the experience too unpleasant and annoying. Especially the little sister. I think Katherine Isabelle gives a pretty good and engaging performance.
I never got into the sequels though. Maybe I'll give them another chance, but I didn't think the ending of the first really left room for more for these characters. They were decently made but felt like they were really reaching to make it make sense, and the tone shifted too much.

I have seen the first movie, and I hated it. 1/10.

Still a big fan of the original. Nice to the see the werewolf-as-puberty metaphor used on a girl instead of a guy.
I've never caught either of the sequels though.

PreachCaleb, I do recommend the sequel/prequel...definitely more underrated than the original, especially Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning IMO. Very interesting yet unique in feel and the execution is pretty well done, including the acting, writing and direction. Even the effects are convincing for the budget too.

I'm a fan of characters making choices for love that dont result in morally righteous or objectively good decisions. I'm glad it hardly happens...but when it does i tend to enjoy it because it honestly feels more natural to me. Its one of the reasons im as big a fan of Rosemarys Baby as i am. Because she chooses her son...sure hes the antichrist, but hes still her son and she will love him.

Marv,
Yeah, the sisters are very believably committed to each other and both actresses make you buy their relationship. Plus, the cinematography is beautiful yet haunting in the prequel too. Funnily enough, the film is actually considered to be the "weakest" of the trilogy by most fans...a notion that I simply don't understand IMO. In fact, I feel that all three films stand on their own.
