Rank all of the segments from the first two Creepshow movies together in order of preference. I'm omitting Creepshow 3 which I not only haven't seen but also isn't regarded as canon.
The Crate The Hitchhiker They're Creeping Up On You The Raft Father's Day Old Chief Woodenhead Something To Tide You Over The Lonesome Death Of Jordy Verrill
I go back on and forth on The Hitchhiker or TCUOY, and sort of do with The Raft and Father's Day as well. They can change depending on my mood and how I feel after watching the two Creepshow movies again. My rank could well change a bit next time I see them. As of now, this is how I feel about it.

The Crate The Raft They're Creeping Up On You Something To Tide You Over Father's Day Old Chief Woodenhead The Hitchhiker The Lonesome Death Of Jordy Verrill
Likewise, the middle four of my list can exchange places within my mood but the top two and bottom two are always the same.

I have only seen Creepshow 2 so far (my friend decided to show me that one instead of the first for some reason, definetly planning on watching the first) and my ranking of those would be:
The Hitchhiker Old Chief Woodenhead The Raft
The Raft was definitely the weakest of the three imo. There was nothing really unique or interesting about it, aside from the design of the creature. I enjoyed the other two quite a bit though. Old Chief Woodenhead had the best storyline of the three, but The Hitchhiker is my top pick because of how hillarious it is.

I wish I never saw Creepshow 2-I saw it in a cinema and I can only remember the woodenhead one--but felt kind of lame anyway. The deviation from the first one's visual style was a big disappointment.
as for the first
The Crate Something To Tide You Over Father's Day The Lonesome Death Of Jordy Verrill They're Creeping Up On You
Only The Crate and Something to Tide You Over felt "EC" to me. I think the others were too weak in plot. No irony. They should have put the Crate last.

The Raft The Hitchhiker The Crate Old Chief Woodenhead They're Creeping Up On You Father's Day Something To Tide You Over The Lonesome Death Of Jordy Verrill I have always preferred Creepshow 2 over the first and it is one of my favorite 80's horror films. I think all 3 stories are quite solid and respectable and I like the mid 80's feel about them. Romero's Creepshow was hit and miss, with it really only coming to life with the last 2 stories. The stories overall in CS2 are definitely more interesting, but I still prefer the original because of its charm. The first two stories are a bit wonky but the rest are great.

The stories overall in CS2 are definitely more interesting, but I still prefer the original because of its charm. The first two stories are a bit wonky but the rest are great. I get the charm thing about the first, and the stylistic approach, but I wonder why they felt like they had to put 2 crap tales in there to kick it off. Admittedly, some short stories are better than others, but for a paying movie audience, they deserved better.Old Chief Woodenhead gets gravy for being bad, but by all accounts, I find it sweet, disturbing, amusing and entertaining overall. It starred 2 classic old actors and it was a well rounded little tale, with a satisfying payoff. Yeah I agree. It seems to be an initial turnoff for first-time viewers by having those two first segments. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think they're that bad, but they could've made them better to really get people sucked into the film.

The Crate - 10/10 Father's Day - 9.5/10 Something To Tide You Over - 8.5/10 They're Creeping Up On You - 8.2/10 The Lonesome Death Of Jordy Verrill - 7.4/10 Old Chief Woodenhead - 6.2/10 The Hitchhiker - 5.1/10
The Raft - 2.4/10
The sequel had none of the charm and sense of ghoulish fun that the original had in abundance!

For me, numerous elements elevate the original far and above the sequel.
I would say that in THE CRATE, THEY'RE CREEPING UP ON YOU and SOMETHING TO TIDE YOU OVER, the first movie has three stories that only one story from the sequel (THE RAFT) manages to rival.
I thought OLD CHIEF WOODENHEAD was adequate but got very little from THE HITCHHIKER and felt it became tedious (even for a short) long before it reached it's predictable conclusion. I suppose predictability is something we could apply to most of the stories over both movies but somehow THE HITCHHIKER seems telegraphed right from the word go.
I also think the wraparound story from the original is stronger in that it only surfaces at the beginning and the end of the film. Somehow, for me cutting back to the kid and the bullies in the sequel breaks the mood continuity of the stories which just reel freely from one to the next in Romero's film.
Given the material and subject matter, both films were always going to be light on story but the collection of wonderful talent amid the cast of the first movie effortlessly carry the film despite this, in a way the sequel can't match. Tom Atkins, Adrienne Barbeau, Ed Harris, Ted Danson, Leslie Nielsen, Hal Holbrook, EG Marshall and Fritz Weaver are a fantastic line up of cult and seasoned performers not easily matched by any production..........never mind it's poorer sibling follow-up.
Then there's the wonderful animation by Bernie Wrightson in the original. The drop in quality in this area with CREEPSHOW 2 was quite jarring and actually makes me cringe. Had we not had the original movie, it might have scraped by as passable but in comparison, CREEPSHOW 2's animation looks cheap and terribly shoddy. Sadly they weren't shrewd enough to use it sparingly and we got a lot more of it than I felt was good for the movie. I also thought having the Creep talking to us and appearing was a mistake that rather than embedding the comic book world the film tried to create, took me out of it. As fond as I am of Tom Savini, watching him prance around in a naff costume with crappy dialogue pales hugely alongside the wind flicking the gorgeous pages of the original comic book...........keeping us firmly locked within it's front and back covers and never breaking the mood.
Lastly and perhaps most glaringly, I find the music of the original movie one of it's biggest assets which towers over anything in the sequel. In turn, wonderfully gothic and eerily modern with it's tinkling piano keys and searing Prophet V synth cues, composer John Harrison here - for me - created one of the Horror genres most underrated and ingenious scores. With the movie being an anthology, Harrison actually gives us five mini-soundtacks which give each story it's own identity, cemented by a fabulous theme tune at the start and finish. I genuinely feel Harrison's score here is in the same calibre as Carpenter's HALLOWEEN, Goldsmith's THE OMEN or any of the genres iconic soundtacks - I truly rate it that highly.
With all this considered, I think CREEPSHOW 2 was on a hiding to nothing from the outset.

The Crate - 10/10 Father's Day - 9.5/10 Something To Tide You Over - 8.5/10 They're Creeping Up On You - 8.2/10 The Lonesome Death Of Jordy Verrill - 7.4/10 Old Chief Woodenhead - 6.2/10 The Hitchhiker - 5.1/10 The Raft - 2.4/10 The sequel had none of the charm and sense of ghoulish fun that the original had in abundance!Funnily enough, the first Creepshow leaves me with a feeling of not being satiated or satisfied enough by it, and it appeared to be missing something. That said, I haven't seen for yonks; but it is not one that I readily recall or want to gravitate towards. The second one is go-to favorite for some reason. I absolutely love The Raft segment and read the short story as well after seeing the film. The segment was very faithful and I thought it was a nice spin on the underwater creature, ala Piranha. Why do you rate it so lowly Mr. Dirty? I didn't think The Raft had the delicious atmosphere of every one of the segments from the original. There wasn't a whole lot of ways for it to go once you could tell what was going to happen. I would have liked it better if the last guy had got away safe. I adore the first movie, including the wrap around story, but the sequel was a big disappointment for me. The highlight was seeing George Kennedy and Dorothy L'Amour together, and even that segment was just sad. I also thought the second film didn't have any of the saturated colors look to it, and very little of the tongue in cheek. I thought it was pretty flat. I know a lot of people who like the second one better, just not for me.

The Crate Something To Tide You Over The Lonesome Death Of Jordy Verrill Father's Day Old Chief Woodenhead The Raft The Hitchhiker They're Creeping Up On You
I've always liked the Jordy Verrill segment and never understood why so many do not.
A horrific affliction; imagine the unsoothable itching! 😖 And the ending hints at an world ending fungi apocalypse as we see the spores and moldy moss expanding ever further out.
King is a horrible actor, but since Jordy was a goofy sumbitch anyway, it worked. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Wrestling, hootch mixed with o.j. , a hot bath, and a big old farmhouse out in the country.
They should of left the bits with him seeing and talking to his dead dad on the cutting room floor, other than that it's quite enjoyable.
