Who do you think was the best villain to come out of the Star Wars Prequels and why?
While obviously Palpatine/Sidious was the real main villian in the trilogy, I've always loved Darth Maul the most and the fact that he barely spoke any lines and got killed off by Obi-Wan Kenobi as a Padawan at the end of The Phantom Menace is what makes him so much cooler. He was so mysterious and was basically the Boba Fett of the Prequels, except Darth Maul actually did some shit and kick some serious ass unlike the later.
The Clone Wars series ruined him in my opinion by bringing him back to life and giving him an actual character. For one, there is no way he could have actually survived that actual fall especially after we literally some him get his body cut in half by Obi-Wan. It just felt so tacked on and was nothing but a bunch of bad fan service.
But enough about Darth Maul, who do you think was the best villain of the Prequels?

I like Palps! He is ranked and considered as one of the best movie villains ever. Why?
- He has a brilliantly written plan, slowly scheming himself up to the top by manipulating and playing everybody, and ultimately making them destroy themselves, enemies and allies: The Republic, The Jedi, The Trade/Business fed, his lackeys (Dooku, Grievous etc), the senators (padme/Jar Jar), the senate. Best political allegory every in Si Fi movies.
-. He WINS which is so seldom with villains, alas (can't think one genre film where this happens)
- He is a perfectly likeable guy with a Mona Lisa smile and good story teller (Opera Scene)
Apart from that, I like them all but they all stand in Palp's shadow for being - brilliantly designed - standard villains, my favorite would be Jango Fett because he was more a father and human than a cartoon villain, then Dooku.

Palpatine/Sidious was an excellent villain and character in the first two Prequels, but he was completely ruined in Episode III. Ian McDiarmid continued doing a fine job with the character half through ROTS (other than saying some wooden dialogue and making some dumb, weird and unnatural face expressions here and there), but his character totally went downhill after he reveals himself to the Jedi before Mace Windu and the gang come to rescue him. The way McDiarmid just does that ridiculous jump and twirl after pulling out his red lightsaber and quickly kills all of the Jedi that Mace brought with him looks so cartoony and unrealistic and the duel with Mace Windu between Palpatine is so short and overly choreographed, it's not even funny. Then he gets his face all messed up (which didn't need to happen) from Mace Windu blocking his lighting attacks on him and looks completely silly and ridiculous. After for the rest film, he just became this dumb Scooby Doo villian and you can tell Ian McDiarmid was really hamming it up the best he could.

He hammed it up, no question, the rest was a necessity from the OT.
And the first time I saw Sith the ham troubled me. But with repeat viewing that vanished, it's the total triumph of evil, he just enjoys himself in an orgasmic way having wiped out all all his enemies (even if he dies, his work will be continued by Vader). And I'm enjoying myself with him for being the only villain who ever wins in these blockbusters.
One of the best scenes in the entire sage is the fight Yoda vs Palps destroying the Senate: It's one of the most brilliant allegorical tone poems of the last decades (the epic music helps of course): These two ideological Forces struggle for supremacy and thereby destroy democracy in form of the senate.
No wonder Sith was inter alia hailed by famous art professor Paglia as the " greatest work of art in recent memory".

My Avatar will make my pick obvious but I gotta go with palpatine.
I loved how he used politics to gain the upper hand over the Jedi. He used both the csi and the republic's fear to gain more power. He befriended Anakin Skywalker and got close enough to earn Anakin trust and when Anakin grew worry of padme, he latched onto it and eventually he corrupt Anakin to his side.
Palp was able to get the republic to turn on the Jedi and create an empire that dominated the Galaxy for decades.
He's easily my favorite Star Wars villain!
