Haven't seen it yet, just noticed It's available on Netflix. Definitely watching it later. I got all excited, but then I instanty recalled the big letdown that was Texas Chainsaw 3D, hoping it will be a step up.
Anyone have some prewatching insight or comments?

It was very "meh" for me. Definitely not one of my favourites in the franchise. It might be even weaker than 3D in my opinion. I just found the film to betray the traditional formula, making it feel out of place and the mystery angle for us guessing which one of the characters is Leatherface was a joke. It does have some great kills and gore, and Stephen Dorff was pretty good. And even though it's the second weakest entry at least for me, it is still landslides better than Next Generation, the worst of the series.

It feels straight to video, which it is, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. Of course, I was expecting hot garbage, but there were things I liked. A twist I wasnt expecting here, a reverse of the usual TCM formula there, etc. It does borrow some things from TC3D, and obviously it's now the second prequel in the franchise, but I think it did all that stuff better.

I wasn't one of these people, but fans were looking up this movie before it was released and saw who would play Leatherface in the film. Of course, when that actor came into play, we knew who it was gonna be, so there isn't any surprise really.

It was entertaining enough, but a far cry from the original, I thought The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was a better prequel. The big mystery wasn't such a mystery really, it was obvious. The continuity of this series is all out of whack, though, making prequels to the original AFTER a remake and it's sequel have already come and gone. It rivals the Halloween series for confusing continuity.

I enjoyed TCM3D...it took the family into a more empathetic state and thats kind of contrary to the entire history of the franchise...but as a film i enjoyed it.

Sorry if I misled you, I'm in Canada. It may make it's way down here on Netflix at some point, which would be the way I'd watch it since I can't see myself paying for it.

I didn't know anything about the film, so when the big, mentally challenged brother died and the main guy turned out to be Leatherface, I was plenty surprised. I didn't even realize it was supposed to be a "whodunnit".

And so, I didn't care for the "whodunnit" scenario.
