I didn’t like it, because M is a man in the books and I didn’t think they should have made him a woman in the films. I am not really very keen on characters being given sex changes. I am a Fleming purist. The name "M" referred to a specific head of the British Secret Service, Sir Miles Messervy, not a nickname for the position. So if a woman was cast in the role the initial for the specific previous occupant should not have been used as the name of the character.

Are any of them theists? I would be surprised if Father or Sailor were theists. Clusium and Galadriel, I really can't tell from their posts. The only one that comes across as a theist is Allaby, so I'll vote for that one. Father and Sailor are both solidly theists, as is Clusium. Some deny that Galadriel is ... but they are wrong. He just is less dogmatic.

Hi Everyone - As promised, here are the nominations for this year. I will be doing things slightly different than previous years - I will be making the votes open so that there are no accusations of cheating by me. Polls will close on 6pm PST, Saturday 7 December 2019. Results available after Polls close. Good luck to everyone. Last but not least, the poster who you would like to see come back to this board- select up to two. I think a few are still on the permanent ban list though. The poster I requested you did not include in the list. And one of the people whom you did add, has passed away, & thereby can't come back. Not a very well informed list maker.

Has International Film disappeared and been folded into Film General?

Why is this thread now in Film General rather than Cult Films?

I loved it, probably my #3 for 2018. I liked it a little more than Shoplifters actually. I liked it a little better than "Shoplifters" as well.

Designed to become a cult movie. Production values are pretty good for this sort of low budget genre offering. The leads are charismatic.

There were a few of them around that time. Never seen ‘Pandemonium’ and ‘Wacko’. However ‘Student Bodies’ was a lot fun (especially the opening scenes), and something like ‘Saturday the 14th’ had its moments. Never cared for ‘National Lampoon's Class Reunion’ though. Yes, groups of movies follow a trend.

IMAX was developed fifty years ago using 70mm film projected onto a huge screen. It is impressive and immersive. But it is being phased out without the IMAX Corp. making any distinction between true IMAX and the digital presentation that they call IMAX using two ganged digital projectors onto a bigger than normal screen but far smaller than a true IMAX screen. Two projectors are needed to keep it at usable brightness, but they are at only 2K resolution, half the resolution of a regular digital presentation. it is big, but not very sharp. Some of us call it Lie-MAX because it is a fraud to call it by the same name of a process that has the most impact of any available format. Christopher Nolan has his films released in true 70mm IMAX. I saw "Interstellar" and "Dunkirk" in both true IMAX and Lie-MAX. The difference was incredible. I would rather see a regular digital presentation than one in Lie-MAX and never select the latter option. ... fascinating, thanks. Well, what I can tell you is that I definitely viewed Apocalypse Now: Final Cut on a true IMAX screen and the imagery seemed extremely sharp. Beyond that, I am not sure. Actually you couldn't have seen this in true IMAX as no 70mm IMAX film prints were struck. So you saw a Lie-MAX presentation. If you thought it looked sharp, it would have looked an order of magnitude sharper in true IMAX. Actually as I explained it would have been sharper in a standard digital presentation. Read this article for a comparison of the real thing versus the fraud. IMAX vs. Lie-MAX

I think it’s quite a good mystery-thriller. Strong cast led by Spader’s dual performance. And I found the twists and turns in the story to be well-handled, and unpredictable. They should have made a sequel "Jack's Front"....

"It’s no great secret how he acquired the ability to levitate and propel himself through the air at will. “Ever since I was a boy, I’ve wanted to fly,” he announced Sunday from his pulpit in front of 15,000 churchgoers and another 7 million watching on TV. “Well I just decided one day I wasn’t going to let the enemy hold me back anymore, and I started boldly declaring before God each and every day that I was going to fly. I spoke the words, ‘I’m taking the limits off of you, God. I will achieve flight. I declare it so!’ And guess what happened, church…” link

LOL, Miller is great as well. Whatever else can be said about Sellers, he apparently wasn't afraid to allow himself to be surrounded by comic performers who could generate huge laughs themselves--and sometimes almost even upstage him. True
