James Franciscus - the poor man's Charlton Heston
Paul Burke - the poor man's James Franciscus There's an actor from the 50s that I've ONLY seen in one thing [an episode of one of the lesser-known anthology-series (a Western)] that is ALMOST a DEAD-RINGER for Charlton Heston (who by the way went to my FIRST high-school out of two).

I FOUND-OUT who it was. I remembered he was on an episode of either 'The Alfred Hitchcock Hour' OR 'Thriller'. Turned out to be 'Thriller'. His initials are/were (he's now and has been since shortly after the episode) JC. He DIED less than two years and a month afterwards. Any OTHER guesses?! It should be EASY now with the CLUES given. First name IS Jack. ANYBODY?!?!

During the war years, with the genuine article unavailable, James Craig was the poor man's Clark Gable: James Craig was touted as the next Gable for a while, though MGM also gave John Hodiak a similar boost. Hodiak had a stronger screen presence and personality than Craig, and he more than held his own in a cast of seasoned pros in Lifeboat, but stiff competition and changing times limited his opportunities. Jayne Mansfield, the poor man's Marilyn Monroe: Mamie Van Doren, the poorer man's Jayne Mansfield:

Quentin Tarantino, the poor man's Sergio Leone. I was thinking just that last night as I watched Once Upon A Time in The West.

Some actors seem to be amalgamations.
Like Christopher George seems to be a gene splice between Doug McClure and Chuck Connors.

, plus this (character) actor IS 6'4'' making him ¾" TALLER than the actor I think of him as the "poor man's" version of.
The other actor was considered to be RUGGEDLY-HANDSOME while he was ALIVE. Both are now

I WILL say (type, actually) that the guy I'm thinking looks like someone else in the pics above DOESN'T as much as he did in what I saw him in. The pics DON'T do him justice for making him look like the "poor man's" version of.

I can't say that Philip Carey has ever particularly struck me as "the poor man's" anyone, so I'll be of no use to this impromptu quiz. But while others are mulling it over, allow me to submit this example of a series of tongue-in-cheek ads that Carey did for Granny Goose potato chips in the '60s, poking fun at his own steely, stoic, strong-jawed image: I've always admired performers who refused to fall into the trap of taking themselves too seriously, and Carey continued to display that quality in a 1971 All In the Family appearance as a macho friend of Archie who throws him for a loop when he comes out of the closet.

Clue = First name starts with a C, JUST like Philip Carey's last-name starts with a C. NOT Clint Eastwood, lol.
