Why is Marvel doing so much better than DC?

That's a tough one. My advice to you is tag DC-Fan, he will know the reason why and be able to give you a good answer.

Marvel had all their big guns sold off to the highest bidders by the guys put in place after their bankruptcy. This forced them to work harder since they lacked Spidey, Xmen, etc. so they thought more along the lines of comic book company rather than a movie studio.
You team up, but to do a team up, you meed characters people know to make them want to buy your product.
Hire a talented actor at rock bottom through his own mistakes, not unlike the character you want him to play. Have a tie-in character (Nick Fury & Phil Coulson)

Incredible Hulk reworked a popular character using names people recognised

Sequel bring in another character (Widow).

Introduce the next couple heavy hitters. A god might be offputting, so go the Shakespearean route with a director & actors people recognise (Hopkins, Portman) using one of the peripherals (Coulson) & sneak in another future Avenger (Hawkeye). Set up the battle for the teamup.

Bring in one of the oldest characters in your stable while setting up the object of quest for your team-up (tesseract) as well as future characters (Winter Soldier, Zola, Red Skull) as well as the organization Hydra.

Meaning patience.
Marvel built their house carefully, slowly with a solid base.

DC as an outlet of one of the older Hollywood studios approached it like an old Hollywood Studio. Go for the biggest payoff possible. Who needs to build these characters? Everyone knows Batman. Everyone knows Superman, even if they are trying to make him dark like Bats because Bats sells better now.

It's because the MCU is simply concerned about making their movies and telling their stories. The DCEU is too focused on catching up. They didn't take the time to properly develop their movies and characters like the MCU did. They simply threw Batman and Superman out there, hoping that their iconic status would be enough. It wasn't, and now they're back peddling to make things better.

Also... Zack Snyder. I mean, why the hell would they give Zack Snyder full control over their movies?

Watchmen was a flop. It was liked by some fans but the great majority of audiences didn't like it that much. I mean, I liked it... and I was the only one who liked it among all of my friends. 

And it's this kind of attitude that's making sure DCEU movies are crappy.

As other say, MCU took their time with it. They had a knockout in Iron Man too. It may not seem it now but that film was a homerun that instantly made people love that character and want to see more of him. It did so well that even if people were so so on Hulk, Thor and Captain america (which I think many fans were) they were still excited for the Avengers which seemed like a new idea. And that was another knockout. And because of solid writing and structure people can look back on those earlier films with nostalgia rather than disgust. All pieces to a bigger puzzle.

DCU came in and tried to sprint with MCU when they should’ve started jogging first. Having confidence in their own product and ability to make one good movie at a time. DCU just doesn’t have that structure. It’s not about the characters. DC characters are just as good, as well as their villains...but the films aren’t structured well to where they tell one small story at a time while leading towards bigger stories. They feel scattershot. Although I haven’t seen jL yet so I’m just speaking of BVS, Suicide Squad and Man of Steel.

The majority of the general public( movie critics, movie goers, fans of the source material they're based upon) view them as being of good quality, their best films are considered to be milestones for superhero/comic based movies and blockbuster filmmaking alike while their weakest affairs are considered adequate entertainments. Individualized opinions being what they are do not change the fact that the majority of the movie going public hold the MCU in a high regard. 

And if your attempt an explanation is "they came fer jokes and explosions" I'm afraid you are not in the right to make such a claim given that you've rated other big and tiny screen productions perfect 10's because of violent content and featuring an actress you are partial towards - which is just as shallow.
