"Almost all of the principal cast take multiple roles. Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess and Hugh Grant all feature in all six of the film’s storylines as different characters in each, while Jim Broadbent, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Zhou Xun, Keith David, David Gyasi and Susan Sarandon play at least three each."

Jack Nicholson played the president and a Las Vegas developer in Mars Attacks! Didn't know it was him until I looked it up. I too am discovering ones I didn't know previously, as I never realised Dick Van Dyke played two roles in Mary Poppins until just now. Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppinsas Bertas Mr Dawes, sen. You've just blown my mind, JulieKohler. SUNSHINE (1999) -- three-generational story with Ralph Fiennes portraying the grandfather, the father, and the son. That^ reminds me of The Fountain (2006), in which Hugh Jackman (not 'Hug Jackman' as I originally typed - though I'm sure there's more than a few people who'd like to hug him) and Rachel Weisz played a set of characters in three different storylines. And somehow I forgot to include in my original post Leonardo DiCaprio as King Louis XIV/Philippe from The Man in the Iron Mask (1998)...which I only just recently rewatched on TV/reviewed in the 'What movie did YOU just FINISH watching?' thread. Evidently my memory's getting worse.

1921 Buster Keaton played The ENTIRE Audience, The ENTIRE Orchestra, Mr. Brown - First Minstrel Second Minstrel Stagehand One of the TITLE cards said : This fellow Keaton seems to be the whole show. The multiple Busters on screen together were created in the camera, using a special lens with shutters to film only a portion of the scene at a time. Buster would perform one part, then the cameraman would crank the film back and open another shutter to film another part. A banjo player with a metronome helped Buster Keaton to perform precisely at the right time for each take.
