I always just thought this one was just good. It has a script that has contributions by Bruce Lee, James Coburn, and Sterling Silliphant was thought-provoking. The film was original and has some great lines. I was just thinking about the end a couple of days ago. I prefer the alternate title, "The Silent Flute" which fits in very well with the theme. What I thought was good were the lessons (eg. the beautiful boy and at the end with 'The Book') and moral of the story. But I thought a good deal of the acting and costumes (eg. monkey men) were sub-par. It was the former that made it good for me. (surprised me when I saw Christopher Lee at the end part). It's been a really long time since I saw this after it came out but it is still memorable regardless.

I think the monkey men are supposed to look sort of phoney, but that is a low point in the film. The beautiful boy and the broken nose....ah yes, I saw this in first release and agreed with a critic st the time Thatcher weakest thing in it was casting Jeff Cooper and masking him look like some surfer dude from Malibu.

Almost nobody agrees with me, but I get a kick out of watching the train wreck that is "Shanghai Surprise"... Posting to get that ridiculous "So" thread from appearing at the top of the board. Hey, that affects us. How does it affect you?

A Night to Dismember (1983), is howlingly bad, but so bad that it's good. Filmed without sound, and a disgruntled crew member destroyed most of the footage. Years later, after some seriously bad narration and dubbing, the remaining scraps of film were pieced together and thrusted towards an unsuspecting public. You'll laugh at just how bad a movie can be! Ape (1976), made in an attempt to cash in on the success of King Kong (1976), except that King Kong was not a huge success at that time. The effects will not impress you, you'll be too busy laughing at them instead. But it's great fun to mock them.

A slight exaggeration on their part!

^ is that NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH KING KONG disclaimer legit? Not sure, but how could they NOT be confused with it? It was a total rip off.
