He's such a miserable douche, it's impossible to invest in his characters, I find.

He's such a miserable douche, it's impossible to invest in his characters, I find. I cannot stand him either and most of his movies as well as action scenes are laughable.

One of my childhood friends who'd always invite us over for a new one, whether on VHS or cable. Seemed like there was a new Seagal movie home release every single month.

Ebert really liked Andrew Davis’s Above the Law and Under Siege, both with Seagal. I haven’t seen either, but Davis is one of my favorite modern directors, so they’re on the watch-list.

Yes, there are people who truly like SOME of his movies.
I like Undersiege and a couple of his other older movies to an extent.
I do think he is cool in some of those movies and charismatic.
Gene Siskel's Top 10 Best Movies of 1992.
1. One False Move 2. The Player 3. Howards End 4. The Crying Game 5. Malcolm X 6. The Hairdresser's Husband 7. Damage 8. Wayne's World 9. Mississippi Masala 10. Under Siege

I think the OP means movies where he is the main character.

Under Siege and Marked for Death were pretty good. I like most of his early films because in the action scenes he rarely, if ever, got hit.

It's hard to get invested in his characters because he doesn't really play any. He just plays himself.

under siege 2 the one on the train - with a hilarious Eric Bogosian as the megalomaniacal villain - is watchable. I gave it a passing 5/10. Seagal - "I'm writing my memoirs"

Yeah. His earlier stuff I did. The films he makes now are pretty forgettable. Some are OK though.

Yes. Out For Justice is a favorite of mine. I also enjoy Under Siege and Hard to Kill.
Seagal is kind of a douche...and hardly ever seems to struggle directly. He’s mostly unstoppable but he always has these unprotected loved ones or associates nearby.

Come on now, his early movies were pretty good as far as 90s action films go. I still like Hard to Kill and Out for Justice.

On Deadly Ground is too preachy for me. Michael Caine, played the villain well. (Even if he does forget halfway through the film, that his character is supposed to be a Texan.)
