It pretty much sucks. The origin story takes a long time. Tom Hardy gets annoying by the end. But it’s not him, it’s that he has 95% screen time. Carlton Drake (Riot) is pretty lame. The lead actress is boring.
Ultimately it was one of those origin stories which takes too long and explains too much. This was nothing but exposition. 6/10

Better than Black Panther? Actually yeah it’s better than Black Panther. well, Black Panther is not the worst MCU film, the question is how much Marvel humor is in it, a la "turd in the wind".
I read that it's an original hot mess of an alien bromance, only fun if you buy into the lead's antics and the humor. Very divisive. Sounds interesting.

The films entire plot is out if anyone interested in reading it.
Riot unfortunately sounds like he's another disappointing CBM villain.

Yeah TBH it’s probably a five. It’s not as bad as Iron Man 3 and is more engaging than the first two Thor films. Venom has its strengths. The conclusion was not a bloated bore. But it wasn’t exactly riveting either. At the end we finally have a character who could fit nicely into an ensemble piece. They could even make a very good sequel if they did it right. But this was screaming for a higher classification. Also this is a boring origin story. What they said in 40 mins could have been explained in two minutes, and the detour you go down is very bland and generic. Kinda like Suicide Squad in that they squandered so much potential.

Yeah I’ve seen enough of Tom Hardy for a while just from watching Venom and I had no problem with him before. He’s good in this but he is in like 98% of the film. And it’s not him kicking ass or doing anything particularly exciting. Then there are HUGE plot holes. But in saying all this, no, there isn’t much dumb comedy at all. That ‘turd in the wind’ comment was the worst example. But there are some very generic one liners which are just awful.

Maybe in the sense that almost anything gets described as cult but hardly is. But no it doesn’t quite feel like the work of an auteur. It’s not badly directed, and you feel sorry for the director because he probably had many constraints by the producers but no, it’s not like he made the best with what he had either. I think it’s best possible legacy would be that it becomes the first instalment in a decent franchise. The universe is still salvageable but if you don’t give the studios any credit you’ll probably be right. It needs to get over the PG-13 hurdle. I hardly see Morbius being any good as PG-13. Venom would have been marginally better with an R.

Why would you give it 6/10 if it sucks?

The film apparently has a budget of 100 million, so obviously it's going to look like shit.

so visual effects is as bad as black panther and that is getting trashed ‘X-Men: First Class’ has rather cheap-looking production values for a big-budget film (yes, including lousy CGI), and it was still praised by critics. ‘Black Panther’ may not have the best CGI, but its other aspects of production values (like sets and costumes) are noted to be several times better. Trust me, it’s not hard to figure it out.

I hear many reviews are fake. I have talked to some people sounds like a pretty cool film Again, SOME of the social media reviews had fake reviews by rabid Lady Gaga fans. The professional reviews that RT and Metacritic aggregate are real. Now should you use reviewers opinion to go see a film is another can of worms. I say no, but I have the free time to see a shit ton of movies. My Sis and friends don't so they use IMDB rating to see if they want to stream movies/tv shows that is already out. They use RT on whether to go out and see a movie. I tend to use trailers and synopsis to see if I want to see it. When I saw the Lady Gaga thing I wondered if people and sony were going to use it as a scapegoat. Seems that people are. Now it's time for sony to use it.

I have used this scene countless times to show what makes magneto a superior character to killmonger. compared to black panther, this does not look cheap www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_dQamaWmwk
