Exactly sg90 I totally agree with you here on both counts . Sadly it's 110% their loss on all of this now . Then of course later on especially when they do finally come to their senses ( if they ever do ? ) . Then in an " out of the blue " thought will discover it will be cheaper for them and they will need our input on it all one day . So by then it will be way too late and already way past a SNAFU Situation here . Welcome to future now we can truly weep for it . Thanks so much sg90 for your reply .

I don't blame them for closing the boards. I think we as regular posters have kind of lost sight of what IMDb main purpose is, which is that it is an information site about films and television shows. Message boards were always just something "extra" that existed to benefit their users. It was never the main purpose for the site's existence, yet they had to invest in maintenance and moderation. Since there is nothing for them to gain out of it, once it became too much trouble, there was never gonna be compelling reason to keep it. People are still going to check IMDb for information about movies and TV shows and actors.
A site like this, on the other hand, exists solely to be a message board. So the effort will be put in to maintain it - as long as the administrators continue to care about it. (And this is no guarantee, as life events happen and people's priorities change). But for as long as it lasts, it's actually better for there to be dedicated sites for message boards rather than just being a subsection of a website which has other purposes.

I came back today and saw imdb was closing. One of the members suggested this site, but didn't give me a reason. The closed the message board because they didnt made any money out of it

Pk9, how thought provoking.

2. Studios don't want people not liking their films, so they pay critics to give them high ratings. Normal people not liking their films is a crime, so they're trying to censor us. Absolutely. Thankfully, IMDB 2 addresses this problem of abusive political authority.

Pk9, how thought provoking. That's not thought provoking. It's idiotic. Years of movie reviews and discussion were lost. If pk9 doesn't like message boards, why is he here? I don’t think pk9 stated any dislike of message boards.

I don’t think pk9 stated any dislike of message boards. Oh please. Listless pontification on why IMDb did the only reasonable thing and closed its message boards. Let IMDb advance its position. We all posted there for years. I can't stand weak people. If you posted there you obviously liked it. He follows along like a sheep and is unable to articulate what was in his best interest. Weak. He still didn’t say that he dislikes message boards though.

He still didn’t say that he dislikes message boards though. No, I said he dislikes message boards. He's such a blithering wimp he doesn't have the ability to articulate what he likes or dislikes. Edit: Oh, but it's "thought provoking". My take is that he thinks message boards work better on sites where they’re the primary purpose (like here). Addressing some of the reasons for the closure given in this thread I’d say not being attached to a large digital media business like Amazon also helps.

Addressing some of the reasons for the closure given in this thread I’d say not being attached to a large digital media business like Amazon also helps. This is my take. There are always two sides to an issue. As someone who did debate in college I'm keenly aware of this. We all posted on IMDb. We liked the message boards. Argue from your vantage point. You can be a weak link like this pt9 and all the morons who praised his dull "though provoking" post. Or you can be a strong advocate for what suits you best. I don't think IMDb needs anyone to come to their aid. They have paid employees who do that. I speak for the community of IMDb users who think IMDb made a mistake. Yes, let’s all be strong and keep things simple and fuck all those weak puddles of piss who do otherwise. Fucking hell, this is our freedom we’re fighting for here!

Stop acting like a wet noodle and stop exaggerating what I said. It sounds like you're rather riled now. Fighting for your freedom to be a pissant? There was nothing "thought provoking" about that guy's post. We heard over and over why IMDb closed the boards. So? So I still don’t understand why you think he dislikes message boards and you puffing yourself up the way you did still doesn’t explain it. I can understand you not thinking that what he wrote was thought provoking though. Perhaps that is what set you off.

Okay, this is obviously a very serious issue. You can now organise a victory parade.

Okay, this is obviously a very serious issue. You can now organise a victory parade. Dude, there you go again pretending that you did not post on IMDb and did not enjoy it and did not miss it once it was gone. I'm merely saying, special interest groups advocate for themselves. If we're gonna discuss IMDb and the closing of the message boards, I don't wanna hear some passive dumbshit spout the company line that IMDb was right to close its boards. I can make a strong argument that they made a huge mistake and IMDb may very well be gone in 10 years because they ditched the boards. Advocate for your interests, that's all I'm saying. This stuff is not rocket science. I posted there and haven't made any suggestions that indicated that I didn't. Had good times, bad times and was sad to see it go but I'm over it. IMDb still has a place in my Google bookmarks list because I first went there for information.
