For me it was East of Eden 1981, the one with Jane Seymour. I don't think I've seen it since it originally aired, but I remember thinking at the time that it was excellent. I later caught part of the original version from the 1950's featuring James Dean, and not being overly impressed with it, which is rare for me, since I almost never like a remake better than an original.

I never saw that, but Jane Seymour was the queen of miniseries in the 80s. I also haven't seen another Seymour miniseries called The Sun Also Rises. I can't find it anywhere.

Brideshead Revisited. Absolutely sublime. I've heard of it but I've never seen it. I will add it to my watchlist.

In chronological order.
THE THORN BIRDS (1982) Although I prefer Part 1 (Barbara Stanwyck) and 4 (Mare Winningham) over the middle. GEORGE WASHINGTON (1984) Barry Bostwick is George with the late Patty Duke as Martha. THE LAST DAYS OF POMPEII (1984) When one thinks about writing a Wiki entry about this mini-series, then it says something about the degree of interest. NORTH AND SOUTH BOOK ONE (1985) I thought BOOK II was rather a chore (despite the battle scenes), and the less said about HEAVEN AND HELL the better, but I never get tired of the original series. THE BOX OF DELIGHTS (1985) A Christmas Perennial. PETER THE GREAT (1985) Historically inaccurate, but definitely a watch. WAR AND REMEMBRANCE (1988-89) Yes, Mitchum is too old and Berkoff too OTT (although its accurate to Wouk's canon). Otherwise, great mini-series. Shocking Holocaust scenes.

War and Remembrance for sure. Great series.
I remember watching the VHS copy of the North and South series in US History (8th grade) in 1989/1990.
Can anyone tell me if the Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones was a TV movie event originally or a TV mini-series? I have the DVD and it's about 3 hours long roughly. Masada with Peter O'Toole is another one I was wondering about. Same thing, I have the DVD. Seems likely it was broken into pieces as a mini-series originally. Both were aired when I was real young and I know for sure my Mom wouldn't have let me watch the Jim Jones one. It sure is creepy! Powers Booth was awesome.

North and South Books 1 & 2 are likely to stay my all-time favorite mini-series for a good while...

The two best I have seen, which is not very many, are Masada and Lonesome Dove.
Someone earlier mentioned Jack the Ripper, which is actually a very good mini-series that starred Michael Caine.
