Wouldn't say heart-breaking since it is meant as a positive ending but the ending of THE PACK when Joe Don Baker reaches out to the stray dog. For a horror movie the wild dogs were also victims so despite being scary it was also rather sad.

Carrie? Bullied and a crazy mother. Yet a mass murderer. Perhaps she was not totally aware of the capability of the destruction her powers. Sad ending where you do feel sorry for her.

"Cat People" (the remake)
I saw the original too but may have missed the ending, as I cannot recall it.

The Skeleton Key ending was so depressing. Probably why Get Out lost some of its effectiveness on me too.

The Skeleton Key ending was so depressing. Probably why Get Out lost some of its effectiveness on me too. There was an alternate ending for Get out that was a bit more bleak and depressing. It didn't work as well, I didn't think, but apparently it was the original ending in the script.

i'm glad Get Out had a good ending I absolutely agree. It's one of the best endings ever. There's a sense of relief and satisfaction because the villains got their just desserts and the main character survived and won!

The Skeleton Key ending was so depressing. Probably why Get Out lost some of its effectiveness on me too. The ending of The Skeleton Key was the reason why I ultimately HATE the movie. It was absolutely unsatisfying and frustrating. It's one of those situations where the ending can make or break a movie. Luckily for the movie, Get Out, it was satisfying.

Also, to me, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors had a heartbreaking ending. Even the music score had depressed me.

The death of the dog was sadder.
"They killed my little dog!" Lara Parker had a similar kind of crying fit in the pilot for the Incredible Hulk. There's a kitten, and then in the next scene she gets a telegram and starts crying hysterically next to Bill Bixby. WHAT was she crying about? They didn't explain.
