Do you think it's as good as the first "The Incredibles" movie? Difficult to say. There are plot and script problems that the first one doesn’t have (for one thing, the villain is far weaker—enough to be a non-entity here), but I think this one is funnier and has better action. The action scenes, surprisingly to me, were superb. There’s a lot I like about the first one, but I’ve always felt the scenes where Bob goes to the island drag the movie down. By contrast, this movie held my attention throughout. There’s this one silent comedy sequence where the baby fights a raccoon, and it’s hilarious and kinda brilliant. One reviewer insightfully compared it to a Tex Avery cartoon. The way in which the gags build on each other, getting funnier and funnier as they go along, is wonderful. The characterizations are great: everyone’s just the same as we left them, but I felt that with the added family scenes we got to know them even better. They’re all very likeable and relatable. This movie somewhat reminded me of the last Mission: Impossible movie, which also had just amazing action but a poor plot (and obvious “twist” villain). So, hard to say. What did you think? I really really like the second one but I think the original is a real classic and a great superhero movie. So if I have to pick, I say the first one edges out the sequel.
