When I was a kid, I HATED (with a PASSION!) westerns, and though in the ensuing decades since, I've developed a BIT of an appreciation for some of the 'classics' from (mostly) the 50's, 60's and 70's (LOVED Clint Eastwood's 'spaghetti westerns'!) I still tend to avoid most of them, like the plague. Anybody have a particular film/animation genre (or genres) that you dislike/hate, or any that you've tried to warm up to, but for whatever reason, just can't ?? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_genresSAVE FERRIS

Musicals (I liked Yankee Doodle Dandy), romantic comedies, "social/urban" dramas.
I don't really care for US westerns, but I do like spaghetti westerns a lot.

I'm open to most genres, though the "torture porn" and "found footage" subgenres of horror got tiring.

Not really a "genre" but I'd rather take a haymaker to the face from Connor McGregor than watch a Lifetime Original

Watch this thread turn into a quasi-macho "I hate musicals" contest.

Those listing 'Drama' I can't see that at all as to consider anything 'Drama' as crap removes a large portion of good movies in general. I think these people listing Drama need to be a bit more specific as 'Drama' is too broad of a term to use to causally like in the topic because that removes a lot of quality movies if you consider 'Drama' clearly on the negative side of things for you. but to list some I generally dislike... -Musicals (this is sort of a 'go to' thing for most of us males as I always suspected this is the most universally disliked genre among us males. for the record... the only real exception to that general rule for me is, La La Land (2016)(6-6.5/10). -Horror (it's not that these are totally horrible, it's just that very few are of any real worth. but I think for a more popular genre, the 'Horror' genre has to be probably the weakest or close to it) -Comedies (primarily of the straight comedy type as they tend to be a dime-a-dozen like Horror movies are as ones of any real worth tend to be few and far between etc. I also see some listing 'Rom-Coms' and I would pretty much put those in the same category as 'straight comedies' which are a dime-a-dozen even though there might be a okay one once in a while.) -Animation (there might be a rare exception here and there but this genre I don't understand the appeal of (like Toy Story and the like) as they tend to be forgettable in comparison to movies with actual people in them. the appeal of these among adults is beyond me as I see these kinds of movies as largely kids movies as they should not be in say IMDb's Top 250 etc.) there are more I am sure but that's good enough for now. p.s. but it does seem 'Western' gets dissed by many of today's audiences even though I think that genre is one of the best if done right. it easily tops the overrated Super Hero genre that audiences can't seem to get enough of. or just to give my opinion of Western vs Super Hero movies for comparison... there are 16 Westerns I score a 7/10 or higher (which makes them within my Top 172 movies straight up at the very least) where as there is not a single Super Hero movie I score higher than a 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up). JamesBy that I assume you mean non-English language movies? because if so, while there are some gems in the non-English language types of movies, they are very few of any real worth. Me personally I am sure there are some types of movies ill just flat out avoid and some genres I largely avoid and, naturally, I think we all have genres we like to mostly stick with simply because after you have seen plenty of movies a pattern tends to emerge on what stands out for the viewer vs what does not. kolchak92I don't think it's like that personally as us males generally dislike musicals as I think that's probably the most universally disliked genre among us males. I also dislike Musicals as a general rule as about the only exception for me so far is La La Land (2016) (6-6.5/10). lowtacks86I doubt anyone would blame you as generic movies tend to be average at best with most probably being below average or worse, or thereabouts. hell, I think when it comes to your typical comedy variation (and just about anything for that matter) on the major networks (i.e. ABC/NBC/CBS (and the like)) are average at best as just from seeing advertisements on many of those shows you can just tell they are crap to where a average movie would look pretty good in comparison. about the only thing I do watch on the major channels are more of the reality TV show variations like American Idol/The Voice (etc) as those tend to be decent disposable entertainment. but your typical comedy on those channels... pretty much like watching paint dry. it's a wonder how people can watch those as once you get used to quality movies you just can't go back as the average comedy type of show on those channels makes the average movie look damn near like a masterpiece (slight exaggeration here but you get the gist of it ). Spike Del ReyI totally agree with you as only a limit amount are of any real worth. but I think when it comes to genres that are fairly popular... I think comedies and horror movies are largely a dime-a-dozen.
