I kind of predicted the first two episodes and knew episode three would be a huge battle. The exciting part about this season is I have no idea what will happen in episode 4-6. Will the Night King win next week and Dany and her forces retreat to the Iron Islands? It seemed to be setting up for that? Or they could actually win but suffer significant losses, allowing Cersei to swoop in and take control. That would be interesting and unexpected. The unknown of the last few episodes is exciting to me. That's a fair guess. Yes, defeat, retreat and consolidation are what I expect. Then Jon will go to Cersei.
I Cant wait for this meeting and under what circumstances will be !! it will be epic , wish this stupid zombie storyline would be over im kinda actually sick of it and its there so characters can be killed off

The more I think of it, the more I realise GRRM is a juvenile hack without anything interesting to say. He is portraying human behaviour not completely at random but "in a bucket" (Monty Python reference), piling it all up without further thought than using it for twists and colour. Then he is using much cruder colours than anyone else, so young fools are impressed and celebrate him for being "daring" when all he actually does is throwing taste away to catch the rabble.

Yeah, so if that is true (and it seems like it is correct interpretation) then we can be rather confident that Bran will survive the next episode. What makes you say that? Bran can die and we'll still have our own memories and histories recorded in places like The Citadel; I think it's more along the lines that as long as Bran lives the Nght King's task cannot be complete. Fair enough. I incorrectly thought it was implied that the whole of humanity would be as good as gone when Bran is killed.

I think it was mainly to make an existentialist point.

Without it, there is no wall, there is no night's watch, there are no wildlings, Sam and Jon and Edd and Tormund never meet, Jon doesn't get voted lord commander, he doesn't take lead of the wildling army, and he isn't named king in the north. Without the wall, Arya and Gendry never meet. Bran isn't a three eyed raven. The white walkers haven't been a plot convenience. They comprised 45% of the plot the first 7 seasons, and 95% of the plot so far in season 8.

Bran can die and we'll still have our own memories and histories recorded in places like The Citadel; I think it's more along the lines that as long as Bran lives the Nght King's task cannot be complete. Military-wise Bran is the perfect Colossus machine, the device the British intelligence used to cracked the enigma, what allowed them to know every move of the Germans in advance (inasmuch as it was wired with these machines). Or: Bran can - potentially - access information that would be most critical, but he hasn't so far for he can't connect the dots like in case of Jon's true heritage, which needed Sam's input. In the end of the day he is a Stark, and Starks as as stupid as a loaf of bread - save for Sansa. Bran says he sees everything, but obviously this is wrong: he can see everything, if he knows for what he has to look after. But maybe he has failed entirely to understand the NK's motivation. It could also be, that the Night's King needs Bran to get access to some information that is most important to him. But in this case it makes no sense to kill the other three eyed ravens unless they had already transferred their knowledge to their successors and the Knigst's king was aware of this. SO: Bran is to vital and valuable for the war effort, he might posses the knowledge about the Achilles heel of the Night's King but doesn't know it, or he was provided with something the NK needs (information and or skill). I have less hope that Weiss and the other guy provide us with a sound reason why the Night's King is out for war. Just wiping out all life because he resents it...not the quality GRRM provides normally, more the crap Abrams and Co. come up with.

GRRM has an idea but is even now working on the details till it has the quality he demands from himself - or the entire book has grown over his head, too.

GRRM has an idea but is even now working on the details till it has the quality he demands from himself - or the entire book has grown over his head, too. I wouldn't be too sure of that. According to Preston Jacobs, GRRM has written many books in which he uses some diffuse, unexplained evil as a basic antagonist and this would be just another instance of it. D & D have repeatedly made that point that the Night King is a pure abstract evil, like death itself, and they would not have invented this when they could ask Martin and get an answer. They asked Martin and that's the answer they got. People need to stop adulating the fat wanker and see him for what he is: an American fantasy writer.

Like I said: I have less hope that he will get a sound reasoning.

As far as I can tell the Night King and the Army of the Dead are just a 'Doomsday Machine' (as per the classic Star Trek episode) created by the Children of the Forest long, long ago.

It had White Walkers and the threat that White Walkers pose. If that's not your thing, this isn't your show. I'm sorry.

We are going to get 30 more mins of fun in this episode. The longest episode of the whole series. Your secondary fav characters (or primary for some) may not make it through so hopefully you guys are prepared for it. I just can't wait now. Leak it already, please!

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Where did I say I was not interested in the Iron Throne "crap?" And like I said. The white walkers story line is no small part. It is at least 45% of the story. We've spent more time at or north of the wall dealing with them than we've spent in Dorne, Essos, Highgarden, the Vale, Winterfell, or any other place not named King's Landing.

My final death/alive predictions: Dies: Theon, Jorah, Gilly & Little Sam, Varys, Podrick, Tormund, Missandei, Gendry, Beric, Edd, Yohn Royce, Ghost Maybe: Bran, Night King, Grey Worm, Rhaegal, (Undead) Viserion, Davos, Melisandre (if she shows up) Lives: Jon, Sansa, Arya, Cersei, Jaime, Tyrion, Dany, Lyanna, The Hound, Samwell, Brienne, Drogon, Bronn, Euron, Qyburn, Yara Sounds like a lot now that I write it down. That would be the death of at least 13 named characters, which would beat the current recordholder 'The Winds of Winter', which has 12 named character deaths. Edit: putting the poll online now already, since I won't watch it live tonight.
