While I do not agree with everything he said, the YouTube Battle Strategist seems to understand logic as applied to the battle between Winterfell and The Army of the Dead, better than CoolJGS. Although CoolJGS says he has some criticism of episode 3, season 8, he still seems like a fanboy who is determined to defend Game of Thrones no matter what. I like reading both your posts so I hope it will be a slap-fight and not pistols at dawn.
Ha ha ha . . . It's not a fight. Just a difference of opinion.

I have no idea how many videos Leo put up but the one I found was 30 minutes and there ain;t no way in the world I'm watching that. Plus he literally starts the video talking about medieval realism & The Art of War lol. Yeah, I guess 30 minutes is too much to ask for you to educate yourself.

I made it through all thirty minutes, at least the production values were halfway decent and he didn't have a whiny, squeaky voice like his balls had been caught in a vice like so many of them have. He kept the smug supercilious snideness under control for some of the video at least. He made some valid points but a lot of them would have been more valid to a different battle, not the one he was supposedly analyzing. His incredulity at the lack of a moat was cringeworthy, most castles didn't have moats for various reasons and a fortification in the middle of nowhere like Winterfell that was seldom under assault would have little need of one. If necessary a trench could be dug--like they did here.

Not much of an impediment. ...and the rest of the time been a stinking disease-festering impediment to commerce for a fortification that hadn't been under assault before this show since...when? A cursory look at the Wiki of Ice and Fire suggests the last time Winterfell was attacked before the War of the Five Kings was prior to the Andal invasion.

Plus he literally starts the video talking about medieval realism & The Art of War lol. That's the one and it concerns itself only with comparisons to a real life situation in terms of tactics, under acceptance of the fantasy elements (dragons, undead army etc…). It is made by a medieval enthusiast who analyses how the defence of Winterfell would have been planned by the forces present, had real life considerations prevailed as opposed to the contrivances of the GoT script, which were ridiculous and only designed to provide cheap drama.

If necessary a trench could be dug--like they did here. The castles are an example of where I have problems with Game of Thrones. They do not do justice to why these keeps have been around for centuries. Winterfell on the TV show does look like a castle that could be easily captured. It has a puny wall and a gate weak enough for a giant to punch through. In the book it is massive and has an ascending double wall with what is the equivalent of a waterless moat. Highgarden was worse and Casterly Rock unforgivable. But that's the problem with analyzing it as a real world battle scenario. Winterfell of the book would have an impossible time surviving a zombie blitz, it's even crazier to think a normal looking castle would stand a chance against a foe that is largely unchanged from the books.

The episode gets a 5 from me, and that's being nice.
All the main characters survive basically, everyone has baby battle scars, and Arya takes out the NK!?
Yea, no, it gets a 5.
