I still say that Titanic has the most impressive box office run of all time.

I still say that Titanic has the most impressive box office run of all time. Indeed 15 weeks at no.1 was the last time a movie stayed at no.1 for over 10 weeks.

Look I love Avatar and Cameron but his hubris and arrogance towards modern day audiences rubs me the wrong way:
“I'm hoping we'll start getting Avenger fatigue here pretty soon,” Cameron said while promoting his new docuseries AMC Visionaries:
ouch !

1.786 billion heading into second weekend. This is definitely crossing the 2 billion mark this weekend. After that then it just needs another 800 million in its entire run to dethrone Avatar.

When did he say this? If it’s recently he’s got some nerve. Sitting on the franchise potential for his own megahit until an entire decade has passed.

That's not a fair comparison either since Gone With the Wind played in theaters for years. And faced a lot less competition during a time when audiences were less critical of movies. Wait, you think audiences are MORE critical now, after the financial success of Transformers and Captain Marvel? That's a laugh!

Some Marvel fans are rooting for Avengers: Endgame to unseat the James Cameron-directed Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time after the filmmaker said he hopes “we’ll start getting Avenger fatigue here pretty soon.”
“Not that I don’t love the movies,” Cameron said in April 2018. “It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!”

Wait, you think audiences are MORE critical now, after the financial success of Transformers and Captain Marvel? That's a laugh! Yes, yes I do. Despite the weaknesses of movies like Transformers and Captain Marvel, they're still a lot better than a number of blockbusters we used to have back in the day. There were fewer movies back then, audiences were more easily pleased. Most just happy to see the next movie that came out in theaters. Less competition between movies. Action choreography was worse, visual effects were worse, acting was more over the top... and yet people weren't that critical about movies. Nowadays we live in an age of entitlement where audiences nitpick the hell out of movies (and yes, I admit that I'm part of this as well).

The film remains the second highest grossing international and worldwide release ever, trailing Avatar in both categories, though by just $302 million worldwide and $265 million internationally in what could end up a very tight race.
Running out of steam fast. 3 billion is now out of the question.

The MCU series-ender is the biggest non-local pic ever in the Middle Kingdom and also became the biggest movie of all time in many more markets this weekend, including Brazil, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay.
