i suppose Disney were never about telling stories, but with what they have become now, they definitely are in it for the money, and the money alone.
"Multinational Media Conglomerate"?
"Entertainment Oligarch"?
"Hyper-Capitalist Entity That Happens To Specialise In Children's Entertainment"?
"Big Media"?

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I see them as already having my money for the foreseeable future.

Now? The Evil Empire. In a sense, it reminds me of the New York Yankees and how, like with Disney, it has gotten so much money and control from buying up talent (or movies in the case of Disney).

This is what it was when Walt founded it. Their motive hasn't changed in ninety-six years, people just starting to notice they're in it to make money?

They tried to branch out fifteen, twenty years ago with different genres and no one saw those movies. Of course they're gonna latch onto what's popular: Superheros, sequels, remakes, Dwayne Johnson. Perhaps if more people saw Treasure Planet or The Princess and the Frog or hell John Carter , we wouldn't be having this thread discussion.

Wal(l Stree)t Disney. Although I think it is more communist than capitalist. Walt Disney was a capitalist-modern Disney is not concerned with audiences except maybe the Chinese.
They are not in it for the money-if they were, they would be making content that caters to all different audiences. They aren't interested in that. The Black Widow article shows that they are motivated by social message distribution. The writer even said "there’s just so much opportunity to make big, positive statements"
They want apparatchiks not artists. And their goal is to remove all artistic competition. You can bet that is what they want--eat up their relatives in the big corporations and then prevent anyone from doing content that disagrees with them through copyright restrictions.

This is certainly a fascinating contention. (Is the Force female?)

I liked them better in the late 1970's and up until the mid 1980's when they were close to going out of business. They made two of my favorite Disney films back then, The Black Hole and the Black Cauldron. They even felt depressed, notice "black" in the titles, and both dealt with satanic like villains (Maximilian and the Horned King).

i suppose Disney were never about telling stories, HUH ?
My biggest problem with the Disney Corp "story" telling is that they take a book or classic story and Disney-fie it. Worst ever examplbe being The Hunchback of Notre Dame. A cutesy Quasimodo and a happy ending … come on !

'Social message distribution' is about catering to all audiences. Though it depends on your view of whatever the message may be.
