Does it also apply to those who rationally hate religion? How can one rationally hate religion without giving an irrational answer? One could point out unpleasant aspects of the religion. For instance, I hate scientology. It's a deeply unpleasant religion which exists largely as a way to scam money out of people and gain increasing control over at least some of them. It is also deeply hostile to those who are critical of it, using means both legal and illegal to attack them. I think it's perfectly rational to hate scientology. Do you not?

@graham
Disagreement isn't irrational hatred
Further, legitimate gripes isn't necessarily theophobia either. If someone were actually molested by a creeper priest, then a hatred of Catholicism may very well be legitimate. But it's irrational to blame me or my beliefs for that. I'm harmless as is the Christian doctrine I follow.
What's irrational is the notion that ALL religion is bad on the basis of the few and there is no question or doubt that most religious people and the religions they are a part of are harmless.
The religious do far more good than bad and that's including supporting all the non-whacky things theophobiacs claim to support. I'm indifferent to Scientologyjust lie I'm indifferent to most religions that aren't trying to hurt me.
I encourage people to join mine since no one I know would scam them.

Disagreement isn't irrational hatred I haven't suggested that it is. I'd agree, it would be irrational to hate the catholic church for the actions of individual priests. Though I think it's rational to hate catholicism because of the systematic attempts to cover that abuse up - thus knowingly perpetuating the abuse and ensuring that there would be further victims. And for the treatment of those victims. Hmm, I think that's a different argument. All I'm asking here is whether it's possible to have a rational hatred of a religion, or is all hatred of religion necessarily irrational in your view. Um, did I understand you correctly there? You appear to be saying that you are indifferent to institutions that systematically hurt innocent people... just so long as it's not you that they are hurting. You don't seem to me to be a bad person, so surely that's not what you meant?
