Just finished the 1rst season of Netflix's "Unbelievable".
In my opinion it was good. Not great. Very liberal, pro-women's rights.
SPOILERS The main victim was supposed to be portrayed as a victim of the system. But she came across as just a looney toon, psychopathic liar. Her story kept changing. I wouldn't have believed her either.
And the main two female detectives came across as too attempting to be comforting and understanding. I would be offended as a female victim.
Have you seen it? What did you think?

They had the obligatory mixed race couple. And the second victim who was white, her best friend was a black lady. That is not real life. That is what liberals and Hollywood would like to happen.
This is the first movie or TV show that I have seen in a long time where there was no obligatory gay couple hugging and kissing. That was refreshing. I was waiting for it.

And if it's the best actor for the specific character, so what?

And if it's the best actor for the specific character, so what? I assume you are responding to my second post. You really ought to use the quote button. I don't believe it is. I believe there is an agenda by Hollywood to include minorities in a "United Colors of Benetton" type thing. Because they want a world with racial harmony, equality and no discrimination. It's what they want the world to be. Not what the world is. They know people are influenced by Hollywood. They are trying to change the world.

Put it this way, "Brian's Song", the TV movie from the early 70's starring James Caan and Billy Dee Williams, about the real-life friendship of Chicago Bears teammates, that was only one story, it showed what was possible. I can't solve your perceived issues about what Hollywood does or doesn't do. Particularly when the American population is getting more diverse to the point where white people won't be in the majority anymore. If Hollywood's attempt to be diverse in the stories being told- whether it's an issue in the past or the present, or something light-hearted- if that's a problem, TOUGH.

That doesn't change my initial point --- all these movies and TV shows with interracial relationships is a portrayal of what liberal Hollywood wants the world to be like. Not a realistic portrayal of what the world is really like.

Art is supposed to reflect reality. If seeing any interracial interactions at all leaves you with the opinion you have, just go to an open mic night.

REPLY #1 Well, I am an extrovert who spends a lot of time outside in a myriad of public social situations. I don't see mixed race couples as often in real life as I do in movies and TV shows.

hmm I actually felt like Dever was a revelation, what an astounding performance. Yep, she was good. But she was already well known because of the movie "Booksmart" and the TV show "Last Man Standing". I don't know if it's her fault, the writers, or the editors, but her character was supposed to be portrayed as a mistreated victim. But she just came across as a psychopathic liar. I didn't find her sympathetic. Just annoying.

Then you probably didn't attend school from kindergarten through 12th grade under desegregated schools. Or live next to an interracial couple for three years. Or see an obvious mixed race child with an adult female (usually a white female). Where I live, it usually isn't an issue. And all the way back to The Jeffersons, it isn't an issue for me when I see movies or TV shows that show interracial relationships, or the token black person, or when a black actor plays a role from a book adaptation where the character was white. I guess I don't watch as much stuff as you do.

It's not an issue for me when I see interracial relationships, or a black actor performing a role written for a white character, But it is an issue for me when every movie or TV show has obligatory interracial couples and gay couples. Even when that is not essential to the story. It's apparent the liberal Hollywood agenda is being shoved down America's throat.

And everything else --- movies, TV shows and commercials --- with a liberal agenda. Somehow it seems a lot easier to not watch one channel than EVERYTHING ELSE !!!

it was good, yes the pro-women angle was strong, but should be considering the rape thing. it was based off a true story mostly
