This afternoon I am trying... 30Β° Casablanca Valley vegan friendly Chilean Pinot Noir "A multi-medal winning wine full of ripe cherry aromas" Not too shabby π I'm no a wine expert, but just saying what I experience. A bit light on the nose as they say. Might be because I drink out the bottle, so it doesn't get to 'breathe' in a glass π€·ββοΈ plus I've smoked like 80 rollies a day for 40 odd years, so my sense of smell ain't the best. It really does have a 'cherry' taste. Then a wood smoky aftertaste. Not overwhelming, but rather pleasant. In my humble opinion, you could serve this to guests, and most would enjoy it, from people who don't normally drink wine, to wine snobs. Food it goes with - no fucking idea. Would I buy again - Yes. Yes I would.

Looking forward to trying this Argentinean Fairtrade organic vegan friendly Malbec. Just went to crack it open, it's got a fecking cork, instead of a screw top. When was it bottled, the late 1800s? Anyone got a top tip for cleanly getting a cork out, without a corkscrew? Or do I really need to go buy one?

I'll pass.

Looking forward to trying this Argentinean Fairtrade organic vegan friendly Malbec. Not that I'm gonna a be drinking wine or care much anyway, but out of curiosity, what makes it 'vegan friendly?' Isn't the risk of bugs getting squished in the process the same since they're barely detectable? Is it a pesticide issue, or do they not use machinery in the agriculture or something?

"When filtering the drinks prior to bottling, companies can use things like isinglass (from fish bladder,) gelatin, egg whites, and sea shells, among other things. These products grab onto the impurities and make it easier to catch them in the filters, though there are many animal-free alternatives in use."

May I recommend the 'Pull it Corkscrew' to the board.
It's an odd seeming metal thing I picked up in a charity shop for 30 Bob.
A bargain π
Takes the cork out of old fashioned wine bottles in an instant, nae danger. Idiot proof.
Sturdy, accurate, very quick, no messing about... A quality item, will last several lifetimes π
The one I bought came with a spare replaceable corkscrew bit... How much wine would you actually have to drink to wear out a cork grub screw bit π€

Trying a Chilean Carmenere this afternoon.
Quite grapey smelling and tasting.
Bit acidy/tart, if you know what I mean.
It's ok. But I wouldn't put it out for guests, some might not like the tartness (if that's a word).
So far, my favourites are Malbec, followed by Pinot Noir.
Still not ventured in to the world of white wines yet... Might take oor Wullie's advice, and try a sweet Rose this weekend, as a halfway house stepping stone.

Carmenere was neckable, just about. But, like Shiraz, it goes on my 'don't bother buying again' list. Food it goes with? Talcum powder... the acidity and alkinlinity should cancel each other outπ

Think I'm getting the hang of this wine stuff now π§
Idea for a new programme... 'Father Jack's World Vineyard Tour' (Fr Jack stays at vineyards with his dogs, gives his sophisticated opinions on their wines, celebrates Mass, and sings Irish rebel songs round a camp fire on his banjo-uke).
"See you pal, see your wine, it is puke by the way... and now, The Broad Black Brimmer, in the key of A, if youse want to join in at hame."

Moved on to another bottle of that corked Malbec.
My wine decorking thing has a bit you just run round the top of the unopened bottle once.
It cleanly cuts the top of the foil cap off in seconds, so you don't have to spend five minutes wrestling the whole shrink wrapped foil thing off π

I really believed that you had your wine delivered in a milk bucket I have to buy it by the bottle like a peasant. But I will tell you this... Europe's largest wine warehouse is a 10 minute walk from yer down the docks. Millions of litres of imported wine from all around the world. Huge vats of the stuff. Come the zombie apocalypse, I'm taking it.

Holy Staff of Joseph of Arimathea! Sunday Mass was over 2 hours this morning π₯Ί Right, time to decide which fairtrade vegan friendly bottle to have for lunch... Both Argentinean, both 2018. The Merlot? Or the Cabernet?

I've gone for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Wow, it's very smooth. Very nice π
"Sales of this wine have so far provided a clean water facility, and built a school for 600 children"
Which is nice.
