1) I work at a place where half my daily duties involve exchanging items with people from the public on a regular basis. I cant hide in the background office duties all day long.
2) When Trump himself says the airlines are shut down, and the World Health Organization officially declares the thing an actual Pandemic...
That's about as real as it gets.

Long-term care facilities are now under lockdown with no outside visitors allowed, and workers are monitored for signs of illness before being allowed to interact with residents. Social activities are cancelled, and residents are encouraged to stay in their rooms. Residents are allowed to leave the facility for doctors' appointments, but they must be screened for signs of illness before they are allowed to re-enter the facility. This means Catman cannot visit Catwoman for the time being, though he can see her when she has an appointment to see her doctors, like she did yesterday. Got to spend a nice hour and a half together before her ride back to the facility came. Phone calls are the main way of contact, but yesterday she finally asked about setting up Skype on her tablet computer. Before she had not be all that interested. Hang in there, catman. I'm sure she'll be fine. And take care of yourself too.

Shelves were empty of isopropyl alcohol, hand sanitizer, and protective gloves. Now one pharmacy got some alcohol and gloves, but are limiting it to one 16 oz. bottle of alcohol and two boxes of gloves per customer. Luckily, I had a few small 2 oz. bottles of hand sanitizer laying around.
University town, local college have announced they'll be holding classes online for awhile. Convenience store near me no longer selling popcorn (they used to have ready-made popcorn, you just grabbed a box and filled it up), and is no longer letting people bring in their own cup for a refill of coffee.

I've made some modifications, and the city, state and some private organizations have imposed/made several.
I don't feel "elderly," but I'm from the leading edge of the Baby Boomers, so by the numbers I qualify. I'm active and healthy, but I want to stay that way. I have backed out of a large dinner at a popular restaurant, tonight ... so have some others. I'm retired, so I can stay home without worrying about income. I do continue to go out, but I'm not subjected to crowds. I get in my 3 miles a day, and I have great resources for all necessary shopping in the neighborhood. The shelves seem pretty normal. I scrub-up when I get home.
An organization which I belong to, cancelled the quarterly luncheon that was to be held next week. It usually draws a couple of hundred members. The city has requested that events intended for 250 people/more be cancelled.
The Golden State Warriors play here, and I've heard that the league cancelled the season "til further notice." But, the team had already announced that they were going to a "fanless" stadium, before the cancellation.
Overall, I guess I feel a little vulnerable, but I'm not really scared ... or even close to panicked.
Be well, all!

I went out this morning to several supermarkets and several pharmacies. All the shelves were empty,- no toilet paper, no isopropyl alcohol, no hand sanitizer, no masks, no gloves.
I have one package of nitrile gloves under the sink.
I called my own pharmacy to see if, since I'm their customer and have been for years, if they'd put a bottle of alcohol aside for me with my Rxs, and they said they've been out for 2 weeks, they sell out the day they arrive, and I should call them the day of their next delivery and ask then, and they'll "try to grab a bottle" for me....to call them right when they open.
Some places are limiting the purchases to 5, which I feel is too high. When I was at one pharmacy, a gentleman was complaining because he has to give his wife her insulin shots, and he's upset that people are allowed to hoard such excessive amounts. I imagine people driving around store to store and stocking up.
Heck, even the dollar store was out of everything.

I've just been shopping for groceries, and at my local supermarket the shelves were still well stocked. I'm not aware of any shortages in our area. But Germany hasn't been as heavily affected so far. Still next week they are closing all schools and nurserys.
I'm a bit concerned about my father who is 78 and already suffering from Parkinson's and he just had eye surgery and will have to go to the doctor's for another check up next week.
Also we had already invited some friends for dinner for the upcoming weekend, but two of them called saying they won't be coming because their doctor advised them to avoid social contact. I wonder whether the others will cancel too.

The toilet paper thing just proves people are morons hand sanitizer not so much cuz that at least makes more sense but still....

It is very concerning but at the moment I am more worried about the people overreacting to it than the Coronavirus itself. It is crazy there are people here getting arrested for fighting over things like toilet paper, tissues and paper towel and it was just on the news tonight they are literally going for everything they can in some shopping centres and emptying the shelves and some of them get violent with anybody who gets in their way and tries to stop them from overbuying items.

It's ramping up around the area where I live. Lots of events being canceled/postponed, schools shutting down for the next two weeks, things of that nature. Not personally in a panic about getting it, but I do worry about some family members who are older, and some who are battling illness and have weakened immune systems. Haven't as of yet seen the really insane over-reactions (people having fistfights over basic necessities and whatnot), but I suppose that could happen if businesses start closing or sharply reducing their hours. It's to be hoped this thing can be gotten under control before those types of situations start becoming more widespread. I think it's proper to be very concerned about this disease, but I'm not sure a bit of panic scenario isn't being promoted, wittingly or unwittingly, in the coverage surrounding it.

Fuck these European bastards who brought corona to the US. The president should enforce strong economic sanctions on the EU for endangering us.
