Do you not like old music or something? I like plenty of old music. But I'm more interested in acquiring new music than playing the same old music over and over again.

Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring (1986)For me, maybe, not their absolute creative peak, as I think they would go further on with their next two albums (Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock), but this is really where they seemed to have "found themselves", by now finally getting the opportunity and freedom of coming up with far more improvised music in a way it was not possible to do, earlier on. And instead of keep on making things bigger or safer, they tended to do exactly the opposite, by using more silence and by then creating a mood or atmosphere which would follow their musical journey towards something very different. Still, the reason to why this album stands out so much in my music collection, is the incredible change within, from a former synth pop act, that was kind of early on "written out" as just another "Duran Duran" product, by harsh critics, but thankfully Talk Talk would prove them all wrong, as they over the next few years blossomed into a very smart, original and soulful new wave band, who by 1984-86 had maybe not the world in their hands, but they were now selling huge numbers, with big hits and a great reputation as a live band. The sound on The Colour of Spring is both very catchy, feel-good and warm, it almost at certain times has a certain "live" vibe going on, just without the audience in the background. They were tight and full of confidence, where the production is top notch, and of course it also helped by being backed up with an small "army" of very talented guest musicians. However, the most important thing is the way the album combines the more upbeat and melodic songs, with far more fragile and experimental ones as well, and it was really almost a best of both worlds kind of record, where you had the earlier hits of the 1982-1984 era and the more, well, not so huge hits that would follow soon from 1988-1991 period, and it is the sound of a band having just found the right "balance" between commercial and creativity.

10 was too tough, so here's 15, apart from the top spot the order is pretty arbitrary:
1. Galaxie 500 – On Fire [1989] - has held this spot since the mid-90s, no one else sounds quite like them
Belle and Sebastian – The Boy With the Arab Strap [1998] Neil Young – On the Beach [1974] France Gall – Baby Pop [1966] Saint Etienne – Tiger Bay [1994] Felt – The Splendour of Fear [1984] Broadcast – HaHa Sound [2003] Young Marble Giants – Colossal Youth [1980] Boris – Flood [2000] RAMONES - Leave Home [1977] Tim Hecker – Ravedeath 1972 [2011] The Magnetic Fields – 69 Love Songs [1999] My Bloody Valentine – Isn’t Anything [1988] The Go-Betweens – 16 Lovers Lane [1988] The Radio Dept. – Pet Grief [2006]

I imagine for most, it's everchanging, especially if you are always exploring new music.

As I noted above, I am constantly exploring new music, and regularly buy new albums. In fact, another one is scheduled to be delivered in the mail today!
