My latest 2020 purchase is "Metal Commando" by PRIMAL FEAR. I can scarcely believe that this is the band's thirteenth studio album, and the sixth one I've bought, but they have yet to appear in any of my Rock/Metal Album Releases threads - until now.
However the reason for that is simple. PRIMAL FEAR is one of my all-time favorite bands. February 6th, 2008 is a date that will forever live in my personal history. It was the date that I discovered '80s Metal from the 21st Century in general, and PRIMAL FEAR in particular.
As such, I hold PRIMAL FEAR to a higher standard than most bands. Since I already own a large portion of their discography, each new PRIMAL FEAR album I buy has to be truly inspired to earn a place in my music collection. The last such album to do so was "Delivering the Black" (2014).
But I am pleased to report that "Metal Commando" clears the high bar I set for it, and several music reviewers agree. For example, Dead Rhetoric notes, "The record flows from first note to last without a drop in quality – and that's not easy to achieve when you have been at this for decades."
I particularly like the review from Amps and Green Screens:
I love this whole album. Metal Commando is the best record I’ve heard from PRIMAL FEAR since Delivering the Black. It’s nice to see them kicking ass and taking names, and this only proves that they have hands down delivered one of 2020’s best albums. On Friday (July 24th), you better be hitting that “BUY” button!!
