I've not come across Emerald but i do like that sample track so I've added them to my "to listen to" list.

I've not added any favourite tracks in 2019 so far but i've been bogged down in some older stuff, commercial music and some obscure stuff. My focus is shifting back to rock and metal since i got my new portable player these last couple of weeks but nothing has jumped out and smacked me in the face yet. I think the last album that did was Amaranthe - Helix from last year.

Thanks for the update.

Emerald is a band I discovered fairly recently. I purchased their last two albums: "Reckoning Day" (2017)
and "Restless Souls" (2019). Those are their only two albums to date that have the same line-up, and the consistency is paying off. So, if you like "Restless Souls", be sure to check out "Reckoning Day".

My latest purchase is by RIOT CITY, who released their debut album, "Burn the Night", on May 25th, 2019.

The Metal Archives gave the album a 79/100 rating and wrote:

Not every single song on here is a killer but Riot City offers high-quality traditional heavy metal inspired by Accept, Judas Priest and Mercyful Fate. Especially the high-pitched lead vocals and the more atmospheric passages are very convincing. Among numerous heavy metal revival bands, Riot City manages to stand out positively and genre fans should give them a chance and keep an eye on them.

My latest 2019 purchase is "The God Machine" by STEEL PROPHET. I've streamed some of their earlier songs, but "The God Machine" is the first STEEL PROPHET album to make me open my wallet.

This is another album on Rock of Angels Records, the same label behind EMERALD above.

The reviewer at The Metal Crypt gave it 4/5 and wrote:

The God Machine is the ninth studio album from L.A.'s Steel Prophet, a band I've reviewed a couple of times in the past, and what we get this time around is a return to the band's ass-kicking roots. From the opening riff of the title track Steel Prophet bombard you with fat, crunchy guitars, bellowing bottom end and pounding drum work, tied together by the classic metal delivery of R. D. Liapakis who replaces original vocalist Rick Mythiasin. Stepping into the shoes of a well-known predecessor is never easy but Liapakis brings plenty of experience (he's also in Mystic Prophecy) and bends the vocal lines to his indominable will and owns every one. The songwriting is consistently excellent led by the title track, "Crucify" and "Fight, Kill" which stick around like they were coated with super glue. The God Machine is not breaking any boundaries but does crunchy power metal right. If metal in the vein of Mystic Prophecy and Black Majesty, with a touch more European heft to it, lights the lamp for you, do not pass on The God Machine.

It's been five years since a studio album, perhaps a short refresher on Crystal Eyes metal music is in order. Essentially, Crystal Eyes plays a hybrid of classic melodic, heavy, and power metal, very guitar forward, and wrapped in some fine hard rock groove. While a teen, Dahl was inspired by the likes of Twisted Sister and Motley Crue, but you'll also hear vintage metal derived from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, and Helloween.

All in all, even with a five year wait, Starbourne Traveler was worth it. Crystal Eyes delivers another solid album of their guitar driven and melodic, power metal rock. Recommended.

This is one of the most solid traditional Metal albums I’ve heard this year. As it spins round, one feels transported to an arcade from 1986 – or a DIO show. More bands should be this fun! The final track, the aptly-titled “Warrior vs Dragon,” is a Full-on Metal anthem successfully sending off a precisely momentous album.

War Cloud have definitely made something that will crack my top five of the year. All of this is crammed into a relatively short, eight-song record that doesn’t have a moment of disappointment. Seeing that the heavier songs are on the bookends, the album plays like a nice swoop of riffs to licks. Any fan of anything hard rock or heavy metal, in general, need to give this a spin because it’s what I view as a perfect record.

Michel Renaud at The Metal Crypt gives the album a 4.5/5 rating and writes:

This album has been kicking my ass for a few weeks now. Fast, crunchy and powerful heavy metal with a pinch of power metal is what Force of Will is filled with. New vocalist Jim Rutherford is a major highlight here, his style and vocal melodies just begging for you to sing along. The crunchy guitars deliver some really cool and memorable riffs and the whole thing has a grandiose, epic vibe to it that just sweeps the listener away. Iron Savior's Piet Sielck is a guest vocalist on "Spitting Fire", which came as a pleasant surprise and the song itself is more on the power metal side, musically, and definitely has an Iron Savior vibe to it. It's hard to pick a favourite from this album as it's pretty diverse with some really fast and upbeat numbers (a little Hammerfall in there), some more ballad-ish and some a little more on the dark side of things but, hey, I'm going to do it anyway: "Albion" is right up there with that epic Atlantean Kodex vibe – very similar musically and in vocal delivery, a very powerful song that I could play on repeat for hours. Nearly one hour of diverse, honest-to-goodness heavy metal with lots of influences put to good use. If I made a yearly "best of" list, Force of Will would most likely be in it.
