You know?
Like, 40,000 people die everyday. I don’t mean to be an ass, but the world goes f**king nuts over the Black Panther dying. I don’t know the man personally. I mean yeah, it’s sad, but the social media outpouring and RIP posts etc...
I like what Joker said in “Joker” (2019) people die every day. If it was me lying dead on the streets you’d walk right over me.
Even the shootings by the police. Yeah, it’s more about the moral injustice, I get it. But excuse me for feeling no remorse for a guy who sexually assaulted people resisting arrest and reaching for a knife... at least the cops are trying to protect the people.

Personally, there were only 2 famous people that I was really sad for, & one of them for personal reasons. The first one was Princess Diana, I was really sad when she was killed 23 years ago. The second one was Corey Haim. The reason why was because I knew him briefly, back when I was a kid.

i dont think its bad at all not to be sad over death of celebrities etc.
but i also understand when someone is. in my case i got “sad” several times, Robin Williams comes to mind first, simply because I love his acting and comedy and often found comfort in it and would have loved to see more of it.
Anton Yelchin because he was so young and talented AND that particular death seemed So avoidable/ unfortunate.
Heath Ledger because I somewhat knew him / knew one of his gfs well and it was weird to learn of his death knowing a bit more about him (plus also he was young and talented)
and now also Chadwick Boseman because I really really loved Black Panther and his portrayal of the king. I enjoyed him in all movies he made, including things like 21 Bridges but boy will I “miss him” as the Black Panther. Also I have so much respect for him having been already diagnosed and struggling but keeping it private and making movies like no big deal.
So yeah, ocassionaly it does affect me emotionaly for these reasons for a little bit, (have not cried for any of it though, just a bit of a selfish feeling of sadness) but I think its perfectly fine that u r different.

Yeah, the same point that I made about Corey Haim. I briefly went to elementary school with him, & then in high school practically everybody knew him from different schools (Corey attended at least 4 or 5), hockey, etc.

You're not wrong. To be honest, majority of people sending these R.I.P messages to Chadwick Boseman and others celebs who have died are only doing it because its the current social norm and they want to fit in. Generally speaking there is no evolutionary advantage to feeling mourn or sadness for a dead person that is not in your social circle/clan

"Famous people" have very often touched and enriched our lives in ways that people we do know in person have not.
It seems natural to feel when someone you like will not be around any more.
River Phoenix ALWAYS comes to mind when this subject is brought up. I so wanted to see him playing a dad and perhaps eventually a grandpa. I had known him since his first roles and watched him grow up on screen. It's still difficult watching his films knowing what happened.

No
I don`t feel anything when a celebrity dies, sure its sad for his or hers family and friends, but it does not affect me in anyway.
The only way i would get sad over the death of a celebrity would be if that celebrity was a friend of mine or a family member.

I remember being particularly affected over the death of David Bowie and Robin Williams. I cried real tears over those two.

I tend to feel a small element of sadness when I read of a death in the news, celebrity or not, and it’s not like every piece of bad news has to be heartbreaking. If someone produces something that affects people in a positive way there will be a moment of sadness when they die.
Of course some people do get carried away with their grief.

I am always amazed at the degree of callous disregard for the feelings of others that are exhibited in the various obit threads.
There are people who post obits that really well written and take some time and research to prepare... it's a shame to see the nasty stuff that so often gets added to them.
If you don't care move on. If you didn't like the person who has died .. you had a lifetime to diss them. Why do it now when their body is barely cold. Start a separate dissing thread if you must!!

So if your favorite actor/director/musician died you wouldn’t feel anything?

So if your favorite actor/director/musician died you wouldn’t feel anything? That is correct. And honestly most of the tears people have over famous people are crocodile tears. This is the final thing i will say in this thread.

Not getting sad is not "nasty". People either do or they don't ... <shrug> Saying nasty things in an obit thread is nasty. (imo)

Most don't affect me. I have enough going on in real life. I'll say 'rest in peace '. But my day isn't ruined.

Like I said in my previous posts, there were only a couple of celebrity deaths that I was deeply sad over. That said, I was shocked when Michael Jackson died 11 years ago. I wouldn't say that I mourned his death like I mourned Diana's, but, his death did shock me.

There is a continuum between being "heartbroken" and "not giving a shit" with reactions all along the scale.
Being saddened does not necessarily mean feeling that "one's day was ruined" tho' sometimes it legitimately does !

Only if they were important to me in some way. I was very sad when David Bowie died because I revere the man as an artist. Prince is another famous artist whose death touched me.
I think it's a shame that this "Black Panther" fool died so young. But I can't say I feel very sad about his death. I hate that phony movie but I won't be dancing on the guy's grave either.
A friend of mine took the day off when Bowie died. I thought it was kinda dumb considering he's someone she's never met and he didn't know or care who she was
