Is it bad?
I don't see how it could be bad.
I wouldn't even say it is bad if you don't get sad over anybody's death. That isn't something you have control over.
There is a difference between being apathetic and being bad and apathetic is the extreme side of it. One is something you have no control over and the other is.
Going around telling everyone how much you don't care about them is a different matter and I would say that is bad.

As long as you are not happy about it.

According to Mark Twain we should envy the dead and pity the living. I find this philosophy quite helpful. We all have to die one day, it's inevitable, and for most people death will come too early, for some perhaps too late or simply at the wrong moment in time. It's sad when a very talented person dies too young, but people mostly feel bad about it out of selfishness. We are sad because they won't be around anymore to entertain us, or they just remind us of our own mortality.
We have to learn letting people (and things) go. Life goes on.

I guess it all depends on how much the celebrity has impacted one's life.
I go back to the fateful day in 2009 when we lost 2 high profile celebs:
Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson.
I was born in 1975, so I was just a tyke when Charlie's Angels first aired. It did air in repeats as I got older. Felt a bit sad because she was an icon.
Same can't be said for Michael Jackson for me, though.
Watching MuchMusic (in Canada) in the 80s, videos of his would air throughout the day. As such, a lot of his songs resonated quite a bit with me throughout the years.
Yes, I know - controversy followed him throughout the years. However, I'm able to keep Michael Jackson - the performer, separately from Michael Jackson - the person.

I get sad when a celebrity dies way too young. Other than that, I don't think any celebrity death has ever affected me all that much.

It's not bad-especially since people react to death in so many ways. It will affect me if, as others have said, the person was someone I greatly enjoyed & brought comfort in some way if I saw them or heard them. In my old age, I tend to choke up a lot more when I hear about any death, because I think of those left behind. The younger the person was who died, the less others had to spend with them. And it sucks!

Only if they were important to me in some way. I was very sad when David Bowie died because I revere the man as an artist. Prince is another famous artist whose death touched me. I think it's a shame that this "Black Panther" fool died so young. But I can't say I feel very sad about his death. I hate that phony movie but I won't be dancing on the guy's grave either.
A friend of mine took the day off when Bowie died. I thought it was kinda dumb considering he's someone she's never met and he didn't know or care who she was That's weird nettie. Lol Is she an airhead? Some of my friends are 'emotional drama divas. ' Lol Maybe she just needed an excuse to take a day off?

Interestingly this thread has focused on those who "died too young" ...there can be a feeling of loss when an older person dies as well... someone perhaps of your same age who you "grew up" with or who you as a kid "knew" with them being an adult.
It varies from person to person and there is obviously no right way to view the death of "a stranger" ... except (imo) to mock that death ...that is just meanspirited !

I am reminded of a joke from the comedy "Bad Moms". The Mila Kunis character is the only person in her company who really works hard - everyone else, including the owner/boss, are slackers. Then one day she atypically gets to work very late. Her boss chastises her for being late, and she replies "oh come on, Susan took a week off when Jon Snow died, and he's not even a real person!".

That's weird nettie. Lol Is she an airhead? Some of my friends are 'emotional drama divas. ' Lol Maybe she just needed an excuse to take a day off? And maybe Bowie and his music meant something to her she couldn’t share with others. Sometimes when my favorite recording artist who particularly speaks to me dies, it takes me a while before I can listen to their music again. It is mourning? Perhaps, I’m not ashamed of it. I agree there is no need to be ashamed. You must relate more than I do.

So you identify with the lead character? That's not the word I would use. I thought the character was immensely cool but I had nothing in common with him - although I suppose I wish I had his lifestyle of going to high society parties. If that falls under "identify with him", then I guess I do.

You know? Like, 40,000 people die everyday. I don’t mean to be an ass, but the world goes f**king nuts over the Black Panther dying. I don’t know the man personally. I mean yeah, it’s sad, but the social media outpouring and RIP posts etc... I like what Joker said in “Joker” (2019) people die every day. If it was me lying dead on the streets you’d walk right over me. Even the shootings by the police. Yeah, it’s more about the moral injustice, I get it. But excuse me for feeling no remorse for a guy who sexually assaulted people resisting arrest and reaching for a knife... at least the cops are trying to protect the people. I feel nothing when famous people die. It baffles me that anyone would. Frankly I feel nothing for strangers who die. People clutch their chest and gasp over some kid they never met was shot and it feels fake. Yes it's a tragedy, but somewhere near a million people have been murdered in my lifetime and that's just in the U.S. My aunt was throwing a fake fit about the media not talking about some kid who was killed (dittohead propaganda) and I'm like, 250 people (on average) have been murdered since that kid died and almost none were mentioned in the news. This kid was all over tv networks. Where is your outrage for all the rest? I don't care about Blake, I do care that we have a militarized police force that can murder at will and get away with it. When Princess Di died, I was like so what, but one of my good friend's family had a wake for her. Everyone dressed in black, walking around like their grandfather had died. His mom was crying. ??WTF

Here is the one that made me the saddest. Probably because at the time of her death she was one of my favorite actresses. She was only 32.

If a President dies in office everyone takes the day off. I didn't leave work the day Bowie died. But I can understand her being upset and leaving work. To some of us Bowie is a monumental figure, more so than most political leaders. Okay. I still thought it was a bit dramatic
