Well there is already a generation where MCU is as culturally relevant to them as Star Wars is to previous generations.
MCU may never become as "culturally relevant" as the original trilogy but doesn't really matter. I'd rather have a long line of planned out, linked films of generally very good quality, than a saga that was made up as it went along and is about 50% turd.

Well, considering Star Wars literally invented prolly 9/10ths of the special effects used in every MCU movie I find that hard to believe. There's no comparison culitualy either. Star Wars has 8 movies in their franchise and out of those 8, 4 are pure crap, 2 are mediocre and two ones are brilliant.
MCU has 15 movies in their franchise. Out of those 15 there are 4 mediocre ones, 6 more then good ones and 5 really really good films.
Yes Star Wars did it first but they took a lot away from the initial magic with the prequels and a copy from the first film. The MCU is unprecedented in movie history. A shared universe like this has never been done before the MCU and until now the other attempts are nowhere close to be on the same level.
In fact you could state that with the stand alone spin off movies Star Wars is trying to set up an extended shared universe for themselves. STAR WARS IS COPYING MARVEL.
So the MCU is so much more relevant Star Wars is aiming to be like the MCU.

Didn't you read the poll? Except that the MCU is the first franchise to bring crossovers and an interweaving cinematic universe to mainstream. Star Wars can't claim that. The MCU also brought the idea that superheroes don't need secret identities to the limelight. Though this concept has been approached before, it was never really done mainstream like how the MCU did it. If you read my post correctly, I said the MCU transcends Star Wars in SOME WAYS. The MCU is also bigger than Star Wars, already showcasing more movies than Star Wars and more live action TV shows. Culturally, you won't see the full effects of the MCU till much later when they've been embedded to nostalgia. But then again, the fact that Star Wars is doing spin offs now that the MCU is so successful with their shared universe seems to imply that Star Wars is copying the MCU formula. Also, your poll is so ridiculously biased. |

And then there is the TV shows and slotting them into it's universe, which Star Wars tried and failed to do do, both practically and artistically (Daredevil, Jessica Jones etc compared to Ewoks, Droids & Clone Wars...no contest really) And back to the "cultural importance" thing. Arguably Marvel (& DC's) comic books decades before Star Wars might be considered as, if not more, important. Let's not forget...Lucasfilm wanted Marvel to print Star Wars as a comic before the film's release, and had to try to persuade them to do so before they eventually did. |

MCU or superhero movies have nothing on this but obtuse beefcake in tights entertainment for kids and the emotionally insecure! I even don't hate the prequels, I've read some expanded universe books. Marvel averages better reviews. Has a better range of genres. Less reliant on gimmicks, like lightsabers. Has had success in film and TV. Remember that great Star Wars TV Series? Me neither. Has covered more social issues. No Jar Jar or Hayden Christensen. Marvel has made more money. |

Star Wars may have revolutionized filmmaking on a technical level, but they're not "dark" films. They were such huge hits because they were quality family entertainment and fun at a time when Hollywood was in the middle of a grunge era.

A bubble that started growing with the comics in the 40s and on film in the 70s, and continued to grow since (count how many superhero/comic films came out in some years in the 90s and the number is pretty comparable to now. It seems a lot now because studios and comic publishers have actually got their act together (remember Lucas tried to make a Marvel film, and failed miserably). The bubble has been therefor decades, it's just much stronger now. You what? Sith tries to be dark, the audible laughter in the audience when I saw it makes me think it failed. How many times has that happened in a MCU film? Whereas Obo Wan was floating about after the first SW film Titanic won more Oscars than all the Star Wars films put together (only the first 3 have won tech Oscars)...it it better than the Star Wars saga? As opposed to pontificating bores in dressing gowns with flashy swords Because of course the Star Wars fanbase is completely devoid of people who are/were kids or who many consider emotionally insecure |
