For me it was the original Night of the Living Dead, the movie as a whole didn't scare me but the beginning of the film really "creeped me out" when they were in the cemetery and that tall guy called out "They're coming to get you Barbra" , I find cemeteries creepy anyway but after seeing this film when I was 19, I didn't want to enter a cemetery.

Opening night at Alien (1979). It was a motivated crowd, helped a lot.

I don’t know about scary but most disturbing probably. Some days I consider it the greatest horror movie of all time.

The only movie i have watched that scared me was a Swedish horror movie i watched when i was 10 in 1993.
I don`t remember what it was called, but it was in black and white.

I can’t even explain how it makes me feel. When it ends I’m always left stunned. No other movie has ever made me feel like that, that’s why it’s an easy 10.

There's a sequence in Argento's Deep Red where David Hemming's character explores a creepy mansion. I don't think I've ever been that scared by the dark.

There have been many haunted house movies, but in my book nothing really compares to The Changeling. When I first saw it, I wasn’t that scared by it initially, but it really stayed with me afterwards. It’s such a mature and intelligent movie with a truly magnificent atmosphere. The scene with the ball always sends shivers down my spine.
I rewatch it every year.

It has some very fine moments - George C. Scott playing the piano and the ball; the exploration of upstairs; when he's at the burial site; and, of course, the end.

The original "Night of the living dead", "Session 9", "The Blair Witch Project", "The Ring" (remake), original "Pet Sematary", "Whatever happened to Baby Jane?", "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte", original "Carnival of Souls", "The Birds", "It" (1990), 1958 "The Blob", "Invasion of the body snatchers" 1957, "The Exorcist", 1968 "Rosemary's baby", "Black Christmas" original, all scared me as a young Teen.
I can't really think of any movies since...Sure there have been some with creepy moments. Or jumpscares. But nothing that legit scared me.

I rewatch it every year. I agree, the ball scene is creepy as hell. As is the part where the little girl sees the ghost of Joseph in the bath tub.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) is the scariest I've ever seen. So gritty and realistic. It's something I could really imagine happening.

Opening night at Alien (1979). It was a motivated crowd, helped a lot. You saw it in cinemas in 1979? What was the reaction at the time? Was there a lot of hype? It's my favourite 70s movie and still creeps me out.
