Today marks 2 weeks since I have been diagnosed with Covid. I have had only a few days when I felt like it was going down hill, the rest were mild symptoms. But it was most taxing mentally to be honest, I had moments of sheer panic and fear that I am sure was causing a lot of stress on my immune system. So if there is anybody who would find some comfort in talking about it with someone who is a double risk group and has only had somewhat milder case, ask away. Hope you are all well and here is to getting vaccinated soon for those who want it. And thank you to those who supported me during this time, you know who you are, I really appreciate it!

Did you lose smell and taste and if so did it take all the joy out of eating?

Did you lose smell and taste and if so did it take all the joy out of eating? I did not lose smell or taste at all, and was wondering that myself. From talking to friends who had it yes they said joy out of eating was taken. But I was fairly nauseous so that kinda did the same thing as a result.

2 Questions: When did you start feeling symptoms? and What was the worst symptom physically? I had about a month of problems, but I only got diagnosed two weeks ago because I kept relying on "covid comes with fever" and I never had fever, plus I really did not meet any people, in weeks/months and was being very careful so I kept thinking "I cant have it". So I cant really tell you how soon after exposure or after/before test. I still dont know when/where I even got it. The worst was chest pain and shortness of breath. This was about two weeks before I got tested. I have asthma and use inhalers so I am somewhat used to this, so I originally was not THAT concerned. It got somewhat scary when the wheezing in my lungs got more pronounced and really limited my breathing capacity, to the point I was wondering "can I have it, but how would I get it, where from". And then it got resolved within about 2-3 days and I never developed a fever AND kept my sense of smell and taste so thats why I didn't even get tested. After the chest pain went away I had mild headaches and nausea and gastro problems, but those were incomparable to the chest pain. BUT for some obscure reason that was when I had fever. Odd. But at that time I already knew I had it, and was Very nervous, and Very scared, so that may have added to it.

How do you think you caught it Nora? What precautions were you, or were you not taking? TLDR: Thats the thing, I have NO idea. Nobody around me tested positive and I was mostly home. Long version: Presumably I was exposed in late November or early December. At that time, I had only one meeting with friends. Its a family of 4 where both parents work from home and both kids have virtual school only, and both families quarantined before meeting, and neither of them had Covid before or since (parents were tested several times). Thats IT. I saw nobody else until December 25th when I saw the same family, again, none of them were or fell sick. Other than that I would take daily walks outside, just like 30 minutes around the block, and always with a mask on. I always wash hands after I come back and had sanitizer on me, so if I touched anything while I was out, I would wash my hands with gel while still on the walk. I would go to a grocery store maybe once every 10 days. Stringent practices there also. Masks, social distancing, hand washing. Never stayed more than 15 minutes, just a quick in and out. My husband did pretty much the same. We both work from home and are home almost all the time. So one of us had to bring it from the store, OR from the door knob of my apartment building, I was thining that I perhaps did not wash hands each time after I walked out of my building - I would wash them when getting back. So I could have theoretically gotten it from there. But there is only 6 of us in the building and from what I know neither of the neighbors had it but yeah they could have had guests, who knows. If I were to say where I may have done things incorrectly, it would have been not washing or changing my cloth masks or respirator Each day. I would maybe do it every two to three days, since I felt like "well I only used it for like 20 minutes today and was not even inside". I also stopped washing grocery items after bringing them from the store, I mean the cans and bags, not the fruits and veggies, that I keep washing of course. So yeah, maybe a grocery store. Brooklyn is supposed to be a hot bed for Covid these days….

Brooklyn is supposed to be a hot bed for Covid these days…. I was going to ask how your husband was too. It just seems odd that you caught it, if necessary precautions were being taken and you say you may have caught it late November early December. Would you not have gotten over it soon after? Did you not also come back from Europe recently? How long is the incubation and transmission period supposed to be? If it has been 2 weeks since an official diagnosis, that was near the end of December, what about the few weeks before? I also need to ask this, what were you doing going to the movies to see WW if only recently diagnosed with Covid 2 weeks ago?
good questions. 1. my husband is home with me and only leaves for short tripps like shopping you know so we both are at each other presense all the time. he has it too albeit pretty much asymptomatic (he is younger and super fit so no wonder). 2. I flew from Europe on the 9th and had a test done before and after and was negative. This had to have happened sometimes after. Why I originally said late November is because thats when I saw the other family. 3. Incubation - well it should be 3-12 days yes BUT we really dont know WHEN I was actually sick, because apaprently one keeps testing positive up to 2 more months after I was told. So since my chest pains were before January, in December, so I am thinking I was actually sick Then, and the test I got now in January was just an indication that I had Covid recently. And my other symptoms after I think could have been caused by the panic and fear of dying. 4. WW - I went two days after my official quarantine ended, since I am only required to quarantine for 10 days, which I did and my symptoms were pretty much gone by then. And the cinema had 3 people at an auditorium for 200. So we were all very far away from each other anyway. So thats how I figure it happened. I got exposed and sick in December, but I continue to test positive until February. So when they told me January the additional symptoms were psychosomatic or just a residue/after effect of the illness.

Your asthma wouldn't have helped either. There has been a big negative stigma surrounding Covid and those that have had it, others may be thinking it is more deadlier than the plaque, which was a bacteria not a virus. Hopefully you didn't infect anyone else while uncertain, yet one will never know. It can also take longer than 10 days to recuperate from an influenza type virus, although after that stage, it may not be contagious anymore. I just think you may have been taking a big risk by going out to the movies so soon after, considering it was less than 2 weeks of isolation and not only for yourself. It is 2 weeks here at least in Oz. Thing is too, the vaccine is being relied on to build up a herd immunity, but so many in the US appear to have had it, a natural herd immunity is likely building up too. Already having had it in your system and recuperating, could work in your favour of building up a resilience to the strain. Will you have another test at the end of Feb? Remember, I have not seen anybody else other than that one family in both November and December and neither of them got sick. At the movies I never came closer than like 10 feet to Anybody. (everything is virtual/contactless and there were only 3 people in the entire auditorium) and the auditorium is sprayed in between each movie.

I'm sorry I missed this but I'm SO happy you're doing well. I lost 5 people to COVID last year. All different ages and all in different states. I'm estatic you were able to overcome it and hope you have no ongoing issues.
What are they telling you going forward? I've heard different things. Are they suggesting the vaccine for you or are you good for awhile?

I have 3-4 great days when I feel back to normal and then 1-2 days when it gets worse again seemingly out of nowhere - mostly chest pain. My doctors say wait AT LEAST one more month before getting the vaccine. I might be immune against “regular” covid now for a while but not against all the new strains most likely - but who knows, right? So Ill try and get it as soon as I can in March. Cannot wait for this nightmare to be over.

Cannot wait for this nightmare to be over. Yeah, it's been brutal. Youngest one was 23. It's been so hard for everybody the last year. I know about 30 people who have gotten it. Most are fine. One who's still on oxygen but he's over 70. I've noticed there are different ways in how the tests are administered. Especially the self tests. How did you get tested? Did you need to spend any time in the hospital? Did you get any of the "rashes" on your hands or feet? Are you taking anything? What you're experiencing is similar to what the people I know are going through. Also extreme fatigue. I'm with you, can't wait for this nightmare to be over.
