The story made no sense; the President is involved in a Batman story; the scale of everything was taken up ten notches (exploding football fields and nuclear bombs?) when, if anything, it should've been smaller and more personal. The studio had to convince Nolan to make the film in the first place, and it really shows. The entire 'plot' to TDKR completely undermines and destroys what was one of the all time great movie endings in the final moments of TDK. Begins and TDK are incredible films, I simply pretend TDKR never happened. It's poorly written garbage, it's obvious Nolan had lost interest in the subject matter. Didn't TDK have an exploding hospital, a Joker dressed as a nurse, a poorly protected district attorney and a helicopter crash in the middle of a city???

BB A TDK A+ TDKR A-
Their hype is perhaps overrated, yet certainly not their quality.

I don't know what the Joker dressed as a nurse has to do with my argument for TDKR being a terrible film. If you want to compare an abandoned hospital or a helicopter crash-- with a football field exploding during a game and an eventual nuclear explosion, go for it. But you can do it with someone else. If you liked TDKR, cool. I didn't. I could go point by point through all the idiotic things about TDKR, but I did that nine years ago and I don't care anymore. It was a bad movie that I have no desire to ever watch again, and even less desire to debate it.

You're complaining about a superhero franchise jumping the gun and becoming exaggerated and more dramatic: what is it about a man dressed up as a giant bat hunting down crazed criminals in a rundown city that is telling you that "Warner Bros is going to try and dial things down a bit?"

You realize the whole point of the Nolan reboot was to get away from the riddiculousness of the Schumacher films and "dial things down a bit", right? The Nolan films were supposed to be a more grounded and gritty take on Batman compared to the previous films. Hell the Burton films were an attempt to "reboot" Batman and get him away from the campy reputation of the 1960s show.

A stadium exploding and a nuclear bomb are viable threats in our real world today so there's no reason why they shouldn't appear in a gritty Batman film. Whenever the words "gritty" and "grounded" are used you know nine times out of ten that the user of those dreaded words hasn't got a fucking clue what he or she is talking about.

No.
The Dark Knight is the best film of the 2000s.
The first one was excellent.
TDKR brings it down for me, not a huge fan of that one. Yet not enough to call the whole trilogy overrated. No way.

No, I don’t believe so.
If anything, the only thing that’s overrated is the opinions of badasses who think their opinion is “so much smarter” than everyone else’s.

You don't agree with it and you don't have too, that's fine...but I fail to see how I think I'm being "a badass who think thinks he's so much smarter than everyone else" by giving my honest to Go view of these incredibly overrated horrible adaptions of the Batman character.

I don’t think. Maybe a few years back but I feel like it’s settled into a realistic position.

If you don’t get my point, you never will. I have no problem with people sharing their thoughts on films. However, a post with an obviously hostile intention with no real thought behind it can’t be simply justified by the “it’s just my opinion” defense. You didn’t give an opinion, you gave an antagonizing declaration. I will say that I’m happy none of the posters fell for it and gave thoughtful responses. The real reality is no films are really “overrated”.

Yes it is.
Begins was great. It felt like a live action version of the Batman Animated series.
The Dark Knight was ok. Beyond Ledger's great performance, it was an overlong bore.
Rises is bloated crap. I turned it off halfway, it was so bad. The story reminded me of Police Academy: City Under Siege lol.

I agree with your take on Batman Begins, and I think Nolan wanted to move on from Batman when he made TDKR, so it’s not his best day at the office. But The Dark Knight isn’t just Ledgers performance. Harvey Dent is fantastic. What a great way to show a good guy descend slowly into the villain. He had those tendencies early on when Batman called him out for threatening a mentally ill sidekick of Joker. Then you see how the Joker used that to corrupt him. I loved that rooftop scene. When he is talking about killing Gordon’s son. “It’s not about what’s right it’s about what’s fair. We were trying to be decent men, in an indecent time.” Sometimes I think he outshines Ledger’s Joker.

I'm really not a fan of Eckhart, always thought he was a mediocre actor. Ledger completely owned the movie, IMO.

Only seen the first two instalments and would consider them to be masterpieces. A perfect blend of the crime thriller and superhero genres and a wonderfully 'realistic' take on the comic book source material.
