I've done self-rocking since I was a child. I also rely a lot on my dog. I saw a bumper sticker on a car that read "Who rescued who?" in a big paw print, and I thought, YEP! My dog's a rescue and I'm convinced he's the one who rescued me. Also watching the old, classic movies on TCM. Nothing with a laugh track. Preferably B&W.
I love TCM. And I agree, B&W movies are more soothing than color ones for some reason.
The day they had Ronald Reagan's funeral, I'd been sick in bed all the day before and was throwing up half the night, and when it finally stopped I was wired, so I turned on TCM and came into the middle of Hell's Kitchen with Reagan and the Dead End Kids.

Frankly and honestly, I really don't know. I supposed I do something, but it's probably so ingrained in me, I don't even know I'm doing it.

I pray and I talk to myself - telling myself it's okay M., It's okay.

I breathe deeply and say this a few times
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Also helps that I visualize (someone I dont like) and pretend that person's parent didnt love them enough as a child. "Oh hug me Daddy!" "Get away from me. I never wanted children!" The parent was drunk simultaneously and went by the backyard pool to relax, accidentally tripped and fell into the water. The small child would grab the Dad's foot to no avail. She/he would watch her parent slowly drown to death

I like adult coloring books. I just bought a 72-piece marker set and a dragon and unicorn coloring book, as well as one that has scriptures.

Nothing calms me down like me and my wife relaxing on our patio. Of course it helps if the weather is nice, but just sitting back outside and relaxing is the absolute best.

Everybody has great answers. The first thing that comes to mind for me, when I have the time and opportunity, I read. Whatever I'm reading, I sit down with it for half an hour, an hour, and it helps. Another one for me, I held onto a few stuffed animals from when I was a kid, and as a teenager I found out the nights I couldn't get comfortable to fall asleep, it would work to hold onto one of them. A couple years ago I made a regular habit of it with one, and I could fall asleep very easily, and quickly, etc., and then I put it in the washer, and it wasn't destroyed, but the fur came out all matted and rough and nothing I tried could correct it. So I went to the thrift shop and found one similar to it. The effect isn't the same but it still helps. Oddly enough I also found out it can have similar effects just to have it beside you under the covers where you can touch it, don't have to hold it the whole time you're trying to sleep. I'm 44-years-old and I still love stuffies! My mom still has a stuffed Gizmo and Frog and Toad she saved from when I was little. I still have my bear from when I was 3.

Do you and your wife have any hobbies you do together? Congrats on 20-years BTW. Were you high-school sweethearts? I'm always touched by people who essentially grow-up together and maintain their bond, it's so inspiring.

As many here know, I’m quite the animation fan and so is my wife. We are also beer fans and hit up local breweries quite often. I’m always amazed at our long, loving relationship but I’m willing to acknowledge that we’re just two of the lucky ones. Nothing will ever amaze me more though than the fact she returned my feelings in the first place. Back in high school when I first realized how much I was in love with her, I never thought things would go the way they did. I’m truly blessed.

And beer and cartoons sound like a great way to spend an evening! Cheers 🍻 I love classic Disney, and Studio Ghibli. In fact, one of the movies that really relaxes me is Ponyo. It's probably my favorite take on The Little Mermaid. My granddaughter lives Ponyo as well. I also love Alice In Wonderland. It's an escape movie for me.

Studio Ghibli is definitely great, I don’t think they’re capable of making a truly bad movie. Our favorites are Kiki’s Delivery Service and Whisper of the Heart.

My mom does crossword puzzles and I just got her a cat themed crossword puzzle book.
Crossword puzzles, that's another good one, I get the big $6 ones with 300 puzzles, they're addictive.

Amazon has lots of good ones! I also crochet. I just finished a blanket for a friend's birthday last month. I just started another one. Like coloring, it's something to work off nervous energy. I used to sketch a lot too. I may try to pick that back up.

I used to draw a lot when I was younger, now it's usually only for a birthday card. My mom and I had a project the other day we both drew a couple of little cartoons to see if the newspaper will use them, it's something that really doesn't feel like you ever left it once you start again.

Lets say you are upset or anxious about something, what methods or techniques (so Not medication) do you use to sooth yourself? I turn everything off (TV, radio, Internet, etc.) and I do nothing except get comfortable. And I let my mind wander wherever it wants.

More laying in bed daydreaming, and drifting in and out of sleep. I live in an apartment. My landlord would evict me if I threw paint around like that girl.
