Any of you looking forward to this? I like the 1992 film a lot, so I'm interested in it. I have a feeling it's gonna be really preachy though.

I'm certainly looking forward to it. May not see it in theatres but when it comes out on home video or on-demand, for sure.

The original is one of my favourite horror movies, but the reboot looks like it's going to suck. I'll still give it a try, but only on home video.

The trailers for this look meh. It's not really doing anything for me. And the killer artist vibe is too cliche for me.

Is Tony Todd even in it? I know his name shows on IMDB and Wikipedia as being in it but I am skeptical.

Not really. The concept that people in 2021 would stand in front of a mirror and say Candyman seems silly to me. The trailer doesn't do anything for me. And to be honest, the original isn't that great to begin with. We'll see, I guess.

Yes, but only for one scene/line. That's incredibly disappointing if true. It's true and I was incredibly disappointed. I thought it was otherwise a good movie, though. As far as "preachy" goes, there's some commentary about police brutality and gentrification, but the latter was in the original too and Candyman himself was the son of a slave and got lynched for knocking up a white lady, so I'm already dreading threads and articles about how "New woke Candyman iz 2 political".

To be fair we have trans people who all of a sudden stand in front of a mirror and see someone else looking back at them and decide they want to be that person and that's happening... Today.

Me too. The original was a smart horror movie for those reasons. It's what made it interesting, more than just a slasher.

This new movie is probably jumping on the one dimension "whites are evil" train that we see in lots of movies and shows these days. The original was also oozing with atmosphere, had great cinematography, and an amazing score by Philip Glass. Hard to see how this new one will compare

I love how Glass's score for the original in no way felt like a horror film score, but it was excellent nonetheless.

Hard to see how this new one will compare I would love to hear your examples of modern films with well executed social commentary. No, not all the whites in this are evil, and its most villainous character (besides Candyman) is black, but that probably won't stop people from projecting, I suppose. This one had a ton of atmosphere and probably better cinematography. A lot of the death scenes are shot in really creative ways vs a mad slasher just popping up and stabbing people. There's no topping Phillip Glass, but his original score is used here and there.
