I like Alien: Ressurection, not as good as the first 3, but certainly better than AvP

I always wrestled with the Batman and Robin hate. Perhaps it's because I was a child when I saw it, but even as an adult, it just seems to campy to be hated. I always thought the most hated films are the ones that fail at trying to be good, i.e. pretentious, whereas Batman and Robin seemed like an excuse to trot out camp, puns, and Batman.
I ain't accusing it of being a good movie; I just never understood why it gets people's hackles up.

Batman and Robin isn't very good, but I would still rather sit through that the snoozefest that is Batman Forever.

Because it is a middle finger to Batman fans and just because your movie is intentionally campy, doesn't mean it isn't still terrible. I don't hate Batman & Robin (I actually liked it when I was a teenager), but it is only ironically entertaining.

I guess Batman fan is a sliding scale. I'm a Batman fan, but I wasn't thinking in terms of box office and sequel potential. I guess the middle finger went over my head. Especially at the time. Wouldn't it have taken a while before it could be determined that it killed the franchise, so to speak?

It doesn't even have respect for the people who like Batman Forever, which is at least a competent movie. It is one of the worst written and worst directed blockbuster movies ever made, that just manages to be "so bad it is hilarious."

I think the problem with those Batman movies is it couldn't lock down a Batman. I liked Batman Forever, but it was weird for someone other than Keaton to play it. But that's just one switch. By the time they switched to Clooney, it looked like a role nobody wanted to play.
Maybe I'll have to watch it again to understand this disrespect. Was it the Bat credit card?

I genuinely liked Scream 2 and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Three of the other films are in my bottom 100 list though: Batman & Robin, Speed 2, and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

It certainly has some terrible things in it—even putting aside the visual ugliness, Uma Thurman’s “day of reckoning” monologue is an object lesson in bad screenwriting—but I find it just too silly to be truly detestable. And I genuinely prefer it to Batman Forever, which I just find dull.

It's probably worse than I remember, but Arnold slayed me from beginning to end.

I am having a hard time taking you seriously. It is like you are putting your fingers in your ears, because I just told you why the movie is hated. Ask someone who actually hates the movie and considers it one of the worst movies ever made if you want a more precise answer. I think that is going too far with the hate, especially considering Batman Forever already cushioned the blow. Batman Forever isn't good either, but there are still a lot of things I like about that movie and it at least takes itself seriously to some extent. That movie found a sort of balance that Batman & Robin throws out the window. Nobody is saying you shouldn't like the movie. If you like it you like it.

He is the one genuinely entertaining aspect of the movie.

Easy tiger. If I took it that seriously, I'd consider asking someone who truly despises it why they do. Just making conversation. You keep asking the same thing over and over though and one thing I don't like is having to repeat myself. And don't tell me to take it easy. That is the best way to get on my worst side. You mean I'm not already on your worst side?
If you want to know the truth, I don't find your reasons very convincing. Especially since you introduce them with the disclaimer that you don't even hate it yourself, but you're explaining the criticisms like they're a matter of historical record. Maybe all those people had an emotional reaction to what they thought was their hero and franchise being destroyed, and the anger towards it holds up less and less over time. Do arguments like it killed the franchise still exist after the Nolan trilogy, or the many DC animated movies?
