"Discussing the political views of a celebrity is such a suburban, middle class thing to do." You mean that thing you were doing? "Meanwhile, in the cities, poor people are being murdered, raped and carjacked by criminals let loose by soft of crime Democrat leaders" The crime rate has been dropping for decades, it was actually at it's all time highest during the 1980s, when Reagan and the GOP were "tough on crime" by ramping up the War on Crime which only created a bigger black market for drugs and more crime. Turns on out being "tough on crime" doesn't really work and paradoxically can just often create more crime. Try again. "For snapple drinking liberals" Snapple? What is this 1998? Could you at least update your stereotypes? Man you must be a Boomer: "Hey what's hip with the kids nowadays? They're still doing the Macarena right?" "its just a fun experiment and an opportunity to virtue signal- for the poor it means rape, severe injury and death. Man Arrested Three Times in One Day, All Within Sixteen Hours www.nbclosangeles.com/local-2/man-arrested-three-times-in-one-day-all-within-sixteen-hours/2829466/Oswego County man arrested 16 times in nearly three months, police cite bail reform cnycentral.com/news/local/oswego-county-man-arrested-16-times-in-nearly-three-months-police-cite-bail-reform" So your "argument" is single, cherry picked examples that fit your preconceived narrative rather than looking at actual studies and metanlysis? Some big brain ideas you got going there.

I don't see anything wrong with what he was saying. I haven't given it much thought.

Bill is a liberal dude, and so am I, but just because we are liberal does not one mean we cannot call out the lunatic fringe of the Democratic Party. BTW, Bill Maher makes an excellent point in the clip which is referenced in this thread. All the films he refers to in this pointed piece of satire glorify and romanticize violence and revenge - which is achieved at the end of a gun. Bill Maher is a liberal who believes in free speech, and has some pretty interesting opinions. He is also human, flawed and something you will never be, funny and insightful. None of which means I agree with Bill about everything, but he sure does a fucking good job here of calling out the sheer hypocrisy and greed of Hollywood. You sound mad.

I actually don’t think Bill Maher is particularly liberal. He’s one of those “both sides suck” and “political correctness is ruining everything” people. In other words, he’s a libertarian. His mindset is very similar, in my opinion to Matt and Trey from South Park. Honest to God, I'm surprised Matt & Trey have yet to appear on his show. All share the exact same beliefs.

It is hypocrisy to an extent. If you talk to any big time gun enthusiast, they'll show you at least a couple of guns they own because they saw it in a movie. I'd be lying if I said I don't watch a James Bond movie and want a Walther PPK or watch Jurassic Park and want that Spas shotgun with the folding stock. Movies fetishize guns and make them look cool and make them look like toys. But ultimately, we have mass shootings, gun fetishization, and violent music, video games and movies because we're a violent culture. Some cultures have folklore about ancient Tree Gods, Elves, and Dragons, and we have folklore about Cowboys, Outlaws and Revolutionaries.

I give Maher one more year before he pulls a Tulsi and does a "why I left the Left" tour on Right-wing media. I don't actually think Bill Maher was ever on the left. He's always identified as Libertarian, he was a frequent guest on The O'Reilly Factor and dated Ann Coulter. I think he had an admiration for Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and that made him appear more favorable to the Democratic Party, and I think his Environmentalism, Marijuana advocacy and Atheism made him more appealing to Liberals, but he really hasn't changed much over the years, except becoming more reactionary. Being a wealthy, single, childless man he probably isn't all that passionate about his tax bracket or where his taxes are going, but it's civil and social issues he cares about. He's hung up on the loud minority in the margins of the left wing of American politics. Trump isn't President anymore so Liberals aren't going to flock to his show to hear all his latest ramblings about Russia Gate, so now he has to rally the Joe Rogan contrarian reactionary audience to his side. He's just kind of pathetic and no sane person should listen his hysterical paranoid rambling.

“When liberals scream ‘do something!’ after a mass shooting, why aren’t we also dealing with the fact that the average American kid sees 200,000 acts of violence on screens before the age of 18 and that, according to the FBI, one of the warning signs of a potential school shooter is a fascination with violence-filled entertainment?”
And children all over the world watch violent movies yet other countries don't have the same problem with mass shootings. Maybe it's the guns and not Hollywood that's the problem.
