Lyrics are basic, but I still like this song.

Remember when this song would come on the radio? Everyone would stop whatever they were doing to do the dance. I knew what song was going to load there before that video showed up. I hated it, but at least it was better than that Letting the Dogs Out song that came out a couple years later. When I was in college, there was one song everyone would stop everything and dance to: (But no one would call it a crappy song)

My cousin download a mix tape of all punk songs, they were great and then this started playing: I could see that, honestly. The Cardigans were indie pop rockers but they had some punk scene crossover. Punks and the indie scene tend to run in similar circles and appreciate the unorthodox and unique. Even your most hardened punk rocker likes a few bright and silly songs. They'd put cheesy pop songs and pop covers of other songs (such as-- I shit you not-- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath) on their albums for some dripping 90s-era irony and Lovefool isn't that representative of their work. I'd say this is more what one of their typical songs sounds like: Funny thing, the song became the trip theme song afterwards and later trips as well.

PSB's are FANTASTIC!
no need to feel ashamed.
That’s also on my playlist. I love 80’s pop. ETA: I think my fav by them is It’s A Sin partly because I was in Ireland, in summer of 1987 when it premiered on MTV. A close 2nd is West End Girls.

This song is simplistic and on the verge of pretentious but damned if it doesn't make me happy:

So I’m keeping with TMBG for a moment, all of their songs are crappy. They’re not meant to be good, tho I have an entire playlist dedicated to them (along with a few The Dead Milkmen songs- look up Life Is Shit, Stuart, and Punk Rock Girl).
So I bring you, Mammal, which always reminds me of the Happy Days episode where Potsy is having problems remembering how, for biology class, a heart works, by making it into a song.

Yeah, can't agree. TMBG is beloved and were excellent musicians throughout. TMBG made Istanbul.

Yeah, can't agree. TMBG is beloved and were excellent musicians throughout. TMBG made Istanbul. That’s a cover song, brilliantly done. I remember during Thanksgiving break in college, riding with my parents to my aunt’s house listening to Flood. When this came on, my parents were like “I know that song!!” Did you miss the part where I have an entire playlist dedicated to them? And upon my return to this board, I changed my sig to a lyric from “Dead”. One of my fav bands. But musically speaking, they were crappy. Not crap musicians, they’re really, really good musicians. But their songs were never going to win a Grammy. Unless there’s a category of best <whatever their songs would fit, I can’t define them>. A few months ago I watched a video of them playing on Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show. Shit, which song were they playing, I can’t remember now. It ends with a jumbled mess of horns, seemingly no rhyme nor reason other than intentionally being a jumbled mess of horns. Doc was playing the trumpet part, and when it was over Johnny had this befuddled look on his face. tl;dr Their songs were never meant to be musical masterpieces. ETA: it was Jay Leno, not Carson. And the song was The Guitar. You’ll have to excuse my faulty memory, which has always been bad but seems to have gotten way worse nowadays.

I'm a bit surprised that nothing from the Fab Five's ouvre has been posted yet. So many possibilities, but this one is my favorite:

What's the point with listening to songs you think are bad?
Is this like the stupidity of hate watching movies and tv shows?

What's the point with listening to songs you think are bad? Is this like the stupidity of hate watching movies and tv shows? You're over-thinking it. A lot of people hate this song because it's country, it's Dixie Chix, and it's sappy, but I love it.
